Unable to install patches to the game
I'm having a weird issue that is preventing me from installing patches to the game. When I try to steam just sort of stops, like disk usage and all the other meters drop to 0 and the time to finish jumps up to being days.

So far for every patch I've had to uninstall the game, and reinstall from scratch since that's faster than just downloading the patch.

I know this isn't a problem with my computer, all of my parts a quite good and I'm doing this on an SSD. It's also not my internet, I can do a clean install of the whole game in like 20 minutes.

Has anybody had a similar issue, and does anybody have a fix.

I too run from an SSD, went to play Elden Ring today and it is reinstalling the game as I speak. I have tried clearing the Steam Download Cache through settings, I have shut down and restarted a few times. No idea if the update triggered this

Does the reinstall worked? I can't install this patch for the same reasons, and I'll spend the night to re-download everything...

I'm at 90%, but this is the second time it has automatically started 'Installing' Elden Ring. The first time it did this i tried clicking 'Play' but then it starting downloading again. When it started re-downloading the game, I paused the download, closed steam, then shut down. I copied my Save data files, so if this doesn't work I am going to try and just reinstall onto my laptops drive instead of my external SSD because this is a headache.

While mine does that, if i leave it alone for a while it just goes back to normal, and unpacks the patch normally, just go watch some videos while game is patching

Reinstalling the game from scratch does work, but it's not exactly pragmatic.
Like I said I have really good internet, so a full install of the game only takes me like 20 minutes and I don't have to worry about a data limit.
If you can't reinstall it quickly, or have a data limit, you're better off just waiting for the patch to load or finding a real fix

Dude,

The Download patch was just over 111 mb, but it is patching 30 GB of the game. It's taking forever on my SSD.

Yea I was reading some other posts that depending where your Steam Library is, devices will patch differently? I keep my Library on an external SSD, so maybe it was trying to patch the 30gb as you mentioned, but I jumped the gun and screwed up the process. Oh well. A day and a fresh install later, I am on my way to becoming Elden Lord again...unfortunately still maidenless :(

In my search to find a fix, I did however find where the Elden Ring character save data file is! Calmed my nerves a bit because my main concern was starting over again.
