Why is the soundtrack being taken down on YouTube?
Now I get that technically there is an understandable interest in not letting people listen to the OST freely on YT but aggressively removing it from there also doesn't help to promote the game, you know.

What if I want to show my friends some of the amazing tracks this game's OST has? How the heck am I supposed to do that easily when my only choice is to buy it on here? It's not that I don't think the original artists should not be supported but I think it generally creates a rather poor impression when rightholders are being that anal about their material.

I feel like you answered your own question; they are selling the soundtrack, and people uploading the soundtrack for free to YouTube are pretty blatantly committing copyright infringement. You say, "It's not that I don't think the original artists should not be supported", but that's exactly what you're advocating.

If there's something you want to share with your friends, you can always, like, hop on voice chat with them and play it. (or share one of your MP3s with them, which is still copyright infringement but you're much less likely to get smacked down for it)

I'm certainly not. I am advocating a less anti consumer and more welcoming way of supporting the game and its music. I mean, use your brain. Who would even be listening to the tracks on YouTube? If someone were to really get hooked on the game or the OST, they'd most likely go ahead and buy them anyway.

This kind of thing just makes the publishers look like greedy control freaks. It doesn't matter one bit if it is their "good" right to do this. It's simply a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ way to conduct yourself as a company. It's not like someone was trying to sell the music as their own work. Going against that is something I'd completely understand.

Why stop at just uploading music, why not promote the game by uploading the game itself on a platform that many have access to so that those who maybe hooked by the OST, or the story or the graphics or the combat or a combination of them will be kind enough to come on steam to buy the game and/or the soundtracks?

They are literally selling their music and it being posted on YouTube directly undercuts them.

The proliferation of easily accessible audio and visual art via the internet doesn't make it morally or legally correct for third parties to take matters into their own hands and decide how the artists' art is distributed.

This isn't any semblance of Fair Use, this is wholesale stealing. Use beyond/without license and even getting paid out of it through monetization of the YouTube videos posting the entire OST. Furthermore, if they don't protect their copyright, they are liable to actually lose rights and protections of them in the future.

Not going to say I am above listening to music on YT, but to pretend this practice is fine, is a complete misunderstanding of how this does and should all work.

You know what? You're right. Every bit of licensed material from the game should be removed from the internet because it's basically the EXACT SAME AS STEALING THE GAME ITSELF. Because this is what you're claiming here.

People will somehow magically be convinced that this game is good and sales will surely reflect that. I really hope they do.

It is literally stealing and directly competes with their product, the soundtrack. "Why buy the cow when I can get the milk for free?"

Buy the soundtrack and make them listen to it.
Jdbye Sep 23, 2023 @ 3:57pm
I just came here to mention this.
Since the game came out, I've been linking people bits of the soundtrack on YouTube to get them interested in the game.
Now I can't do that anymore.
Aggressively blocking this makes no sense.
I understand that it's copyrighted content, and they're technically allowed to do it. Doesn't make it a good idea.
No other game developer/publisher does this. They understand that it's free publicity for the game they're trying to sell.
People buy soundtracks for games they're fans of. In order to become fans of a game, they first have to play it. Having the soundtrack available on YouTube attracts more fans.
People aren't buying soundtracks for games they've never played.
If the devs/publishers want to upload the OST to an official channel, then I could understand them not wanting any other uploads of it.
Devs/publishers need to consider how much publicity they get from how many likes and views the OST receives on YouTube. As well as the ad revenue they get from the views. It's a win win.

Have you ever heard of Nintendo?

But, yeah, they should totally let people steal their product for exposure.

Play the free demo.

Taking down content will not make pirate buy the game. That is very silly.

You realize you just said "Don't stop piracy because people will pirate"?

No, I like the game and soundtrack but no chance in hell I will spend my money to buy the soundtrack.

Now after it isn't available on Youtube, I have no other option other than buying it.

So let me get this straight.

You won't by the soundtrack....because you can't listen to the soundtrack without buying the soundtrack?

You can't stop piracy though, you can only slow it down temporarily.
