Is it worth the 95% sale it is on right now?

I missed the BF4 craze in my time, while playing a lot of BF2BC, then after 6 years played a little of BF3, tried 2042, didn't like it, played a little of BF1, which is objectively good but not my cup of tea, and recently really enjoyed lot of Battlebit remastered.

95% sale is very attractive, but all the negative reviews and issues that are being brought up, are making me not so sure, if BF4 is even worth any time investment in 2025.

The question is: is BF4 worth the time investment and 95% discount in 2025 (how's the player base in EU region?), or better skip it, invest time in smth else, and wait for next BF game? (in hopes that it'll be good)

yeah it's still fun, very much active for eu. the majority of the negative reviews are about the bugs in campaign, cheaters in mp, incorrect player counts, and the ac software kicking them.

bugs in campaign - the worst one is the part where you have to swim underwater during the ship level. you have to cap fps to smth like 30 with gametime.maxvaeriablefps 30 or use rtss or nvidia app.

cheaters in mp - i'm an infantry enjoyer so it's maps like locker where i see ppl accuse others the most of cheating. there's a certain point in time when you know what's possible and not after x hours of gameplay, so don't worry about it. play on moderated servers like core, bz, and you'll be fine. cheaters get banned daily, so you have a low chance of meeting one. btw, some ppl clump players who bunny hop/movement tech along with cheaters. some servers ban these movement techs (not bunny hopping, vouzou/zouzou) so use !rules if you wanna use them.

incorrect player counts - the in game server browser is not correct so you have to use a browser extension with battlelog, or click view full server page on the server's page in battlelog. (or use gametracker, it's been buggy lately tho)

ac software - you have to update the anti cheat software in order to play online, follow my guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2127540070

All EA multiplayer games are basically dead because of cheaters. You can buy it and play it, there are still enough people for that. But the quality of the matches will always be poor because you're playing with people who don't understand that it was just done by a wallhacker. And if you experienced the great matches of BF3 and BF4 before cheating was such a problem, you won't be playing it for long today. Battlefield 6 will also suffer the same fate. The publisher is not doing enough. If you want to play the solo campaign it's worth it. Certainly not for multiplayer.

So i guess even though everyone must update punkbuster in order to play, it is not helping with cheaters :)

If you live outside of Asia or South East Asia, yes it's worth it. I, unfortunately, live in Asia and the multiplayer servers here are 100% dead. I can't play in any server without getting kicked due to 200ms ping.

Sounds like FPS MP gaming in general these days, can't point the finger only at EA when all the others are just as bad and a lot worse depending on how popular,

i would rather not spend two bucks on a dead-weight game. I'm more worried if all the issues with cheaters and etc. are not that bad, so that these games would be worth any time investment.

For example, if anyone would tell me that these games are so riddled with cheaters and have some very old gamebreaking bugs, to the point of practically unplayable - i would rather spend my time playing some other games.

nope. punkbuster is broken. i think its some anticheat i have never heard of thatsbooting me but the only things i could think of thats causing this to happen is possibly discord overlay or steam? im not sure but man id love to file a lawsuit over this stupid ♥♥♥♥ since they turned off main menu access to setting up your loadouts. i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate EA

There are still plenty of server can choose as long as you are not in Asia and are still many people playing this game.

For the cheater, I am not sure, as I am newbie in this game and the old players do get better equipment, and they always do better than you. Most of the time are unlucky, but you can still get some kills if you play carefully enough and have fun.

So for a price like that, I think it is still worth it.

All of the servers are community ran. If the anti-cheat doesn't get them, then server admins with PBBans will. I can't say I've experienced much blatant cheating in this game in the 500 hours I have into it. I think the people saying it's "cheater filled" are actually just bad and are being stomped by people that've been playing for half a decade or more.

You're probably on the version of punkbuster the game installs which is...outdated. Why they never fixed that Idk, but you'll have to go here to update it so you're not being booted from servers.

Decided to buy both BF4 and give BF1 another chance. BF4 is pure old-school fun, and got to play a couple of matches without updating PB, haven't got kicked once.
Yet afterwards i've updated PB just to be on the safe side.

Indeed there are a lot of very skilled players, but haven't seen any blatant cheating yet.

$2 or you spend an hour asking questions and ask other people to spend their time answering, and all based on random opinion. Or $2, save time, make your own judgement. Also, you can refund the game if you don;t like it after buying.

$2 .... is it worth it. I looked at your library, you've wasted 100x more than that.
