Dead Space 3 crash on startup

Just got the game on sale and I was hoping to play it with a friend. Every time I launch the game, it crashes immediately, and I'm not quite sure what to do to fix it.

I tried messing with the settings.txt, turning off steam/origin overlay, and verifying the cache, but no luck so far.

same thing happened to me so I just started it thru origin and it worked

if the game crashes for you on startup then disable any overlays you have. RivaTuner, Discord etc. Those can interfere with the game and at least for me that was the fix to make the game work.

I was playing this last week and it was fine but now I have the same issue. Crashes every time I try and launch through steam but opens Origin and says it is not downloaded. Now the game is downloaded and the files are all visible in my Steam folders but Origin want's to download it again into a separate folder?

i don't really want to have to have it installed twice and I am guessing if I play it directly through Origin it won't track my Steam profile like stats/unlocked achievements?

Edit: Removing overlays did not fix anything for me unfortunately.

I should probably also add for people who may be looking for more solutions, apparently disconnecting your controller may help fix the issue
