Pronouns/wokeness/ political and social idealogy aside, I highly doubt the new Mass Effect will be anything like what we're expecting and will include major letdowns in one way or another. Thus, I use the Audemus' Happy Ending Mod as my canon at the end of ME3 and will continue to pretend the series is over.

It's been too long and there are just too many ways this could go sideways to have any real hope for a decent Mass Effect.

There's this very funny idea that games fail because they include pronouns or something, one that works only if you ignore some fairly high profile releases that actually did really well despite being "woke."
Games do badly when they're BAD. It doesn't matter if Liara is a she/they or Shepard calls herself a lesbian, if the game plays well everyone's going to conveniently forget they were pissing and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and crying over the pronouns thing. Veilguard isn't a dull mess because of pronouns, it's a dull mess because it doesn't play like Dragon Age and the characters talk like they're in the MCU

Many good stories come from life experiences. It is when a story is beyond one's own imagination that these then become interesting. When you have a sheltered life and are still young, lack experience, never faced adversity or difficulty, then you likely will find even a boring story interesting. So, yes, it very much matters. Take Tolkien for example. He was an English teacher who fought in the first world war. His life experiences allowed him to write Lord of the Rings. You could not make it up if you tried.
