I recommend stress-testing your PC using Prime95 (blend test) and go from there.
I found this fix online: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1238000/discussions/0/4436564907308315244/
But it didnt help me, but you can give it a try. The crashs happend one time when I wanted to continue my game but mostly, when I wanted to change the starsystem. So it seems that there is a bug...
This game is anyway very bad optimized for PC...
I've run the game on a I5 3350, 4GB ram and a Nivida 550 ti.. that's like a 12 year old comp and it runs with very playable frames. If your not getting good frames something is off on your config.
I tried many things out and I think, I figured out the problem and a possible "fix". The problems seems indeed a missing fps limiter. I limited the frames at 30 via nvidia control and the game stopped crashing. I also tried to set it a bit higher (first at 60, then at 40), but then the error occurs again. Probably a problem with the bad PC optimization because it was limited on consoles...(I know that other people have FPS issues and also crashes)
So yeah, my best workaround so far is to set the games down at 30 fps. You could set it perhaps up between the critical moments, but I stay at 30 fps.
I also tried to use lower graphic settings and tried to play in window mode (what I read somewhere else as solution), but this didnt help me... :)
Have you checked your Bios version or chipset and see if you have any updates? Lots of folks never bother to check that aspect of things because they are more advanced, but often a simple bios update can be like magic, but even a chipset update which is very simple. Just get your motherboard name/model and you can just overwrite the file and restart. It needs nothing special for install.
You could also try going full fresh vid driver install, verse just doing the Update driver option.
Another thing is making sure your Ram is running in XMP mode.
You could also try running www.userbenchmark.com and see if anything get's flagged. It has some minor trouble shooting options that can pop up if it finds something a bit off.
If your using windows 11 and i want to say 10 as well, there was an update that just came out a few months back as part of an optional install that was specifically for the Whole Micro-stutter issue though i think that was about AMD not nividia though i've seen people talking about that as well but most of them are running 4090's. Games will often have issues with the latest cards because people are trying to push them into resolutions that the games were not designed around.
You have to remember this game came out when 900's were the cards to have. They never optimized the games for 4090's and the crazy resolutions people try to run the games at. What resolution are you trying to run the game at? Are you forcing it to run at non-supported resolutions?
My comp is a 10700,. 32GB, 1060 6GB.. I run around 100+ FPS on 1080p/144hz and never have had any issues with the game outside of the launch issue with the new launcher and Registry error. 95% of the time i'm working on a comp i can track down the issue to a config problem even when folks say, it has to be the software, everything else runs perfect! Computers are complicated things and just one tiny thing off can lead to issues.
Maybe one of these suggestions will help you. GL!
So, its more likely that the game doesnt likes some special config or something. But I really never had the problem, that a broken game caused a complete restart.
