Game constantly hard crashes, even on low. Deck should be able to run BF2 no problem, but for whatever reason struggles. Have seen videos of BF2 runnng like butter on the Deck, but I cant seem to get it to run, for long, if at all. tried different compat tools, to no avail. Any Ideas?

Have you looked here yet:

Regardless of the hardware, you should select DX 11 in the settings,
DX12 does not work well at all.

Honestly I don't have a clue of what's happening to you. I played it a bit on Deck and didn't experience what you did. Did you try to mess with the settings ? Maybe there is a precise setting that messes with your config....I remember the very first far cry making my computer crashing back in the day because of one of the water effects.

Launch the game at the lowest setting possible, desactivate everything, and see if your Deck still crashes.

So the mainline problem with BF2 running on the Deck is, EA Origin sucks, basically. On the plus side, long story short, the Origin app is not updating with most Proton builds or conventionally with Linux, causing BF2 to crash. So, the "fix" is this. Launch the game in compatibility with Proton 6.3-8, in this compatibility the game wont run, but the EA Origin app will update, after the update close down BF2 and relaunch the game under Proton experimental, and you should, be good to go.

A side note, this only works in order to play Multiplayer, trying to play offline with bots still for whatever reason hard crashes the Deck,. The game, after Origin was able to update runs much better, I am now maintaining a near solid 60fps throughout on a mix of medium to high settings at 800p.

game consistently crashes at "galaxy far, far away" introduction of campaign and sometimes it gets as far as the first view of stars right after that intro... all settings on low, not dx12, and proton experimental after doing 6.3-8 to install Origin again...

Yeah the game, from what i gather, either way, wont run on the Deck in singleplayer, either against bots or in campaign. The game thus far on Deck only works in Multiplayer, but you have to update Origin to play, otherwise the out of date build crashes the game whatever you try. Also every time Origin gets updated it breaks the game again, meaning you have to run proton 6.3-8 to re update Origin every time a new patch drops in order to keep playing, because Origin is fantastic like that.

Ok thanks, I will maybe try the multiplayer then, too bad the single player campaign doesn't work
