The issue is that both steam and the game have their own controller support, by default steam wins out and your controller is recognized as a keyboard and mouse using steams universal controller support, this makes the game horrible (no aim assist/controller acceleration/Keyboard prompts/ sensitivity mapped to mouse setting ect..)
To fix right click on Star wars battlefront in steam library/ then properties/ then controller tab/ then set to 'disable steam input'--- then the controller worked great
note that on controller disconnect/inactivity the controller configs will swap back to steam requiring a game reset to switch back.
Just tried that, and it disabled controller input completely.
After that you go to the top left in steam and click view>big picture mode>settings>controller settings and make sure that there is no check mark and it will work
This was very helpful and I did the same 'disabling' in both the steam and big picture windows and was able to have my controller recognized and the prompts change to accommodate the controller - I have a Switch Pro controller I've had no problem with in other games. However, the configuration for the buttons is totally off and even the control pad and movements are inverted, making the game impossible to play. Any guidance?
I wish I could get my flight stick to work with it... I can't fly with mouse/keyboard.
