2.5 million sales in a month and top 10 most listened to on spotify. Reallt isnt going thw way sega thought - its doing better
Additionally if you haven't seen the studies Steam published on how sales actually drive UP demand for games, you should look into it. Often cutting a little bit off for a week here or there gets hesitant people to jump in, they generate buzz around the game, others who were hesitant hear the good buzz and the game gets a second, third, fourth or whatever wind.
They have SO much data on this across their entire platform for thousands and thousands of games among millions and millions of users. They found that you can reliably (assuming your game has at least decent user reviews) get a second "wave" of purchases in the month following each discount period. As in, the discount period sees a spike, that spike flattens out for a few days, then it doesn't return to the normal level of purchases, but rather ramps up, past where it's purchase levels were before the discount, and stays up for a while eventually slowly declining. Additionally there's an earnings report in January so they are also trying to move more NOW in order to boost their numbers and look good for investors.
Agreed. Fhe mental gymnastics and outright false information people will feed themselves to ♥♥♥♥ on sonic is as disturbing as it is hilarious.
