Huge CPU usage spikes -- any fix??

Ever since upgrading to windows 11, this game exhibits spikes of cpu usage in Cyberspace that freeze up the game, and my entire computer if I don't try to stop the game from doing this. Either way, it makes it near impossible to play through the Cyberspace stages. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Are you using a 9th Gen CPU by any chance? if so that's your culprit. I use Windows 11 with a 13th Gen CPU on one PC and Windows 10 with a 12th Gen CPU on another with no issues at all.

Yeah I'm using 9th gen, just wondering if anyone has found any ways to get rid of this issue that isn't just getting a new processor

Not that I'm aware of sadly. At least you can play the game but I remember only too well how distracting a CPU that's being almost fully utilised by one application can be. Fingers crossed a fix is found soon.

I ended up just buying the game on xbox so i can still play it without having to deal with freezes. Still prefer playing it on PC though so hopefully it ends up getting patched or someone figures out a solution

Has this happened before? CPU spikes are caused not by the game but you might have malware my suggestion would to be isolate your pc on your network and put your pc on safe mode and finally install an anti-malware software to remove the virus/spyware/root-kit (if you have Linux)/phising/vishing. that should help you with the problem.

its not malware, its the game.. this is a common issue with the game, i just made this thread to see if anyone else was having similar issues still

I had no issues before the update but post update made it constantly hard freeze.

I ended up switching back to windows 10.. i like this game that much unfortunately

Did switching to Windows 10 solve the issue for you?

Go to game properties in the Library in Steam, and disable Steam Overlay. Fix some stuttering. You also have to do the same thing with Nvidia Geforce experience overlay. That doesn't work for everybody however.

Yeah, from what I can tell that is the only fix other than buying a newer CPU.

Yeah bro i'll just switch to linux and break compatibility with multiple games i play and programs i use that'll show microsoft for a niche bug existing in a sonic game
