It's unsupported
I pre-ordered making the educated assumption it will be supported or work regardless of if they put the effort to make it supported, this is because I watched 70mins of Switch footage and the game ran just fine in basically a fraction of the hardware of the SD, and considering SEGA's current record with verified games I don't see a reason to believe otherwise,

Push comes to shove I can refund anyways so there's really no downside.
Unsupported, according to SteamDB.
hey! just wanted to let you know that it should infact be supported! the game even showed up at the tokyo game show display that valve had set up for the steam deck which you can see in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs32-1gkz9U
The game is running on the same engine as Sonic forces so theoretically it should run fine. Also i remember hearing about this game being shown off at a convention running on SD. Regardless, if not i m sure valve will fix it quickly. otherwise you could just refund it.
Steam Deck user here to say, don't put too much merit on the "unsupported" matter. Most games that are unsupported are either unknowns that Valve hasn't actually confirmed, or there's an issue that needs to be resolved.
Game's gonna run the same engine as was used in Lost World and Forces, which run fine on Steam Deck. I was also VERY tempted and dipped into the forbidden fruit of "playing a leaked copy of a game on an emulation program" and while it ran like dirt, it could still hit 20ish FPS, which for a game that isn't even officially out yet, is pretty good. PC native version will be just fine.
Valve still has their refund policy, if it doesn't work for some reason, you have 2 weeks from purchase/release or 2 hours of playtime to get your money back.

it says unsupported but also it says same thing on sonic adventure so i think u must wait for release to someone make a gameplay on steam deck but they said that sonic frontiers runs perfectly or very well in steam deck
It says unsupported but sometimes Valve mark games as unsupported for dumb reasons when it actually works perfectly fine. Just wait for the game to be released and then check if the game works in protondb website instead.
The game has likely received the 'Unsupported' tag because something in the game is broken on the Deck, even if it is minor. Valve have said in the past that just one broken aspect of the game on the Deck is enough to give the game an 'Unsupported' tag. (Such as cutscenes not playing properly)

The fact the game has been reviewed on the Deck pre-release is encouraging though, and means it might be something Valve intends to help ensure works properly for release. So it might not be 'Unsupported' for long!
With some technical tweaking , it should work as the game don't have a kernel level monitoring driver (anti-cheat).

So unsupported by Sega, but works with workaround...
To be fair despite it being marked unsupported. I think it's worth trying regardless, as someone said earlier Sonic Adventure is marked as that and it runs pretty much flawlessly.

Same goes for Generations, although that game suffers a bit with performance in some areas

With any luck it's just a case of valve being extra picky with the verification again and the game runs fine. I'm hoping that's the case anyway.

Also, system and Proton updates which come out after a game has first been checked can often fix the problems which the game had, but the game's compatibility is yet to be officially rechecked, causing it to be stuck with an out-of-date rating.
The 'eck runs everything, it's just a PC with Linux
Just wait until the Proton Jannies release an update for it

one thing that might be nice would be having details tho on that, also isnt yellow normally reserved for "generally runs but has some smaller issues"

Yep. The yellow 'playable' tag indicates that a game might have minor issues such as minor graphics/sound issues, or the game might need a bit of in-game user tweaking to run great, but other than that, it would be a good experience on the Deck.

As this game is 'Unsupported', it suggests that testing found something a little more serious. It could have crashes, or the game could have frequent performance issues which are not resolvable using in game video settings (which could indicate a bad PC version, and is not necessarily a Deck-exclusive problem), or it has a game-breaking bug.
Anything which makes the game 'unplayable', even if it doesn't necessarily occur all the time means it gets the 'Unsupported' tag.
Whatever the issue is, it might well be fixed with an official 'Day One' patch, or with a Deck-side update from Valve at release, particularly if it's just a Deck problem.
