Why is Dr. Eggman still the villain?

Why do they continue to use this Joke of a character as the bad guy every. Single. Game. I liked him way more in the adventure era because he’s about his business. Now he’s not serious at all and is a complete joke. After watching the trailers for this game, I was disappointed to see his robots out and about and other Eggman themed things. I want a different original villain and I think we got one but I really really hope she’s not over shadowed by Eggman. I’m tired of, you thought the villain was someone else the whole time but it was me, Eggman like we got in generations and forces.

Bowser in my opinion is a different case. He’s a better character and in the rpg, he actually has really cool moments. He’s a joke yes, but when he wants to be bad ass, he can. Heck, Bowser isn't even the main villain in the Mario & Luigi games, Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door and the Super Mario Land games on the Game Boy, the last of which doesn't even feature Bowser in any way whatsoever. Even when those games get different villains, they still feel like a threat and aren't just there to be a joke.

I too miss when Eggman used to actually be serious and threatening. I'll gladly take this:

I don't even mind when Eggman has his comedic moments every now and then. Even in Adventure and Heroes, he was able to have some funny lines that get a laugh out of me while still acting more serious when the situation calls for it.

That is one of my favorite Sonic Cutscenes. It has some of the best moments for multiple characters, Eggman being a genuine threat, Tails being brave and Sonic taking the situation seriously.

I may have missed that part. But I just find weird you'd compare Eggman and bowser. Even if we go toward recent games, Eggman never dressed in a cat suit anyway. At any rate, he's the bowser of Sonic series. I specifically meant Adventure 2 anyway. Playable and he even helps you. (just like bowser did a few times when some stronger threat appeared.)
