To be fair, Boom was its own continuity meant for a different audience compared to the main series.
Also Nintendo is gameplay first story second and Zelda games have various stories outside of the triforce, Zelda and ganon.
Sonic in videogames isn't the same as in the comics.
The story can't work as well in a video game.
And to be honest Mammoth should stay in the comics as Robotnik is the main antagonist here.
