This is the kind of story telling I was looking for, and everything I've seen seems like it'll deliver. This is probably the first Sonic game I paid full price for in a very, very, VERY long time.

That's a dumb hyperbole when people still look back fondly on Sonic Mania, Generations and especially the Adventure duology.
Perhaps the GBA and DS games as well, and Unleashed and Colours to a lesser extent.
