Because until generations Sonic games didn't feel the need to put it in every game.
because there are numerous starting levels they could use that's not green hill zone.
sonic adventure and sonic adventure 2 both prove you don't need green hill zone or any old sonic levels to do well.
and even when it was in sonic adventure 2 it was as a bonus level not as a mandatory stage.
same with sonic Heroes and unleashed.
pritty sure green hill is a coastal hill not a forest. considering the ocean and palm trees.
After all, we got 4 games focusing on nostalgia:
Sonic generations: Nostalgia but Ok
Sonic Mania: Nostalgia but good
Sonic Forces: Nostalgia but terrible
Sonic origins: Nostalgia but the same
I do hope that the frontiers nostalgia be good as generations and mania...I'm glad that we won't see classic sonic in the game WOOOOOO
I accept it in Forces because it shows the impact of Eggman's war so it looks completely different and even has different soundtrack.
Mania was more about being a retro styled game taking elements from the classic games, remixing old ideas while introducing some new ideas of its own to make something different out of it. So while it is exhausting to see the same Green Hill from the first game over and over, it's not as big of a deal in the case of Mania considering the kind of game it was trying to be.
Forces, meanwhile, should've been a modern 3D Sonic game that's supposed to move away from that, with its own host of original ideas and pushing the series forward. I mean, what the heck is classic Sonic doing in my modern Sonic game? It's not even done as a joke like the Qwark vid-comics in R&C3 were, it just... exists for no good reason, especially when we already had Mania for classic gameplay the same year (and done right, might I add?).
Same applies to Green Hill too; we had Mania for all of this and then some. I can't even consider the sand as a new idea for Green Hill as that does nothing in-game, which is what can be said about almost everything they tried to do with Green Hill in Forces - it's all background noise so it's hard for me to care about what's going on.
At least Emerald Hill had a completely different aesthetic from Green Hill to not make it feel like a complete rehash, plus it also had original ideas not found in Green Hill. Same goes for Palmtree Panic, Turquoise Hill, Seaside Hill and Sunset Hill.
People just like to whine on details.
