Sonic Generations - This should've been a one time only thing for the franchise, but the reason it works for Generations and no other game besides those listed here is because it was a game celebrating the history of the franchise up to that point.
Sonic Drift - A racing game on the Game Gear that re-used zones from past games but was mostly fine due to it being a spin-off title on an inferior handheld at the time.
I'm also fine with zones that take inspiration from Green Hill so long as they do their own thing with it like Seaside Hill from Sonic Heroes or Sunset Hill Zone from Sonic Advance 3.
gens was an anniversary title so it makes sense to have it
i legit think the only reason people don't like it was cuz we got mania and forces back to back, but mania's green hill was good and forces sucked balls lmao, cuz nobody in their right mind would complain about it before forces came out and used it 9 times
Honestly, I found it to be somewhat of a problem with Mania as well, but that's only because we got more zones from old games rather than fully original zones and I would've liked to see more original zones there but even then, they at least tried new ideas with Green Hill to not make it feel like a total rehash and in ways that actually enhance the gameplay as opposed to Forces having parts of Green Hill sandy that have no effect on gameplay whatsoever.
so yeah forces is to blame
we barely saw anything, maybe they'll do what mania did and bring in new level gimmicks or tropes
What people want to see more than ever, especially these days, is brand new ideas or concepts we haven't seen before, and I know this franchise is still perfectly capable of doing so!
I do too, but I just don't like how they keep using it in every new game like they ran out of new ideas or only exist to remind us of the past instead of using it as a means to move on with the franchise or as just a cool bonus level for fully completing the game like in SA2.
