Making money early game?
Bets ways to make money in Chapter 4? I mean I guess I don't have to buy all the equipment and can save the side activities for later, but.... come on, it's more fun this way

Play a little further in the main story and you are unlocking 'Ichiban Confection'
This management game is going to get you money early in the game.

And that will let me play the $500-a-game Mahjong?

Early in the game Ichiban Confections is the fastest way to earn money. It'll take some time though.
Also play the substories they give money and/or items, too. Or if you find plates sell them at the pawnshop.
Later in the game you are going to have lots of cash though.

Like mentioned above its best to wait to unlock the business minigame. You will be earning MILLIONS. I just waited for that one and then i started blasting the academy/school exams, upgrading the craft shop, getting the job exp bonus items , unlocking carts etc.
Money basically is not an issue in this game thanks to managament mode. Just needs some time investment

Also It unlocks a secret party member

Also you can try to unlock the casino if your personality stats are high enough, I invested in 10k chips, and left with 200k, that I exchanged for Platinum plates to pawn them, 20 millions in one hour of poker.

use treasure hunt, chances that you find golden plate+ are pretty high, its 100k yen

Yes, playing Poker is the best way to do it. I am laughing at the bank. Although, I stopped playing because it started to feel like cheating in a sense. So I upgrade the Romance Workshop fully and then stopped.

This. Some luck and a healthy dose of save scumming got me more than enough money for what I needed early game

You unlock the management minigame halfway through chapter 5.

This or Oicho-kabu are the earliest and easiest ways. Management comes along somewhat later and takes a couple of real life hours before you get to the end and the cash just rolls in.

You'll need some basic strategy for either gambling game, play for the highest stakes and probably a willingness to save scum if you want to hurry things along though.

how is oicho kabu easiest? Unless you luck out on 10-10-1 as dealer there is no reliable strategy to constantly win.

Poker on the other hand stupid and plays the same pattern all the time, its being like that in all yakuzas.

Mahjong on highest stakes is decent way to get early money and some other stuff if you can play it.

Bet small when you're not dealer. Then rely on the stupid bets of the AI when you have the statistical advantage. Same as poker, the AI is intentionally dreadful.

If you want you can save scum as well, the stakes are high so losses and wins are both large and the games are very quick. That doesn't really work out for Mahjong, Shogi or the like, which are complicated games that Westerners probably aren't too familiar with.

you can easily whif as a dealer, in fact i lost at it ALOT, oichi kabu is literally blackjack, which allows you to control bets to some degree, its a much longer run than just poker.

Mahjong really is not complicated in yakuza, the hardest thing is to find X button to show you when you have ready hand. Collecting triplets and straights not that hard.
Once you figure that 1-2 are crap tiles and 3-4 much better because you have +1 outcome for straight and start discard honors, thats basically all you need to know about mahjong in yakuza to get you started.

SHogi i did some puzzles, i just dont have patience to play it, nor do i really want to.

in fact i've had quite alot of oichi kabu games where AI got 10-10-1 on dealer, its -20k tags, meaning you pretty much screwed.

There were also ALOT 9-1 to the point i stopped betting once i saw 9 dealt to dealer lol.
