How noob friendly is this to non-turn based JRPG fans?
The only turn based RPG I've ever played is Pokemon Leaf Green and that was when I was seven years old, and even then, I basically spent 400 hours fumbling through it before RNG was nice enough to let me win. That is, unless you count Undertale, but that's barely an RPG if you ask me.

If it's not terribly noob friendly, I'd still like some recommendations on games that are. I've been recommended most Mario RPGs, Chrono Trigger, and the SNES era Final Fantasy games, but if there are any more, I'd like to hear em.

Pretty friendy I would say. The first playthrough difficulty is set on normal which is in fact very easy . There is only one difficulty spike very late in the game . Beyond that the game doesnt require much thought.

There are also "types" of damage with weaknesses and recistances so you might find that familiar.

I might just do my first playthrough on easy tbh. My first playthrough on every other Yakuza game was on normal or hard, but because I'm so new to this genre, I might as well just go easy on myself and maybe turn it up later if I feel up for the challenge.

What I was trying to say was that there is no difficulty option. On new game you are " fixed" on normal which in reality is easy ( as in , not hard at all ) .You can only change difficulty in NG + and by change I mean to harder ones .

Trust me you will have no issues with difficulty especially if you level up your characters. There are only specific spots where some bosses are harder but the game in-directly warns you in advance.

This may be the easiest JRPG I've played in my life, you'll master it by the time it gets slightly harder.

I was actually planning on dabbling in Dragon Quest once I'm more acquainted with the genre, but first I wanted to play the earlier games in the series.

Oh, interesting. Guess I won't have to worry about being bullied for playing a video game on the difficulty made specifically for dummies like me.

Oh yes totally do that! The older ones may be a bit too old school for modern taste, but if you only had time for one play DQVIII it's a true masterpiece.
