Region Locking?
I'm from Indonesia & I can't access the storepage, says it's unavailable in my region. Gotta go out of my way on VPN to get this discussion board's link. Prices aren't out yet so SteamDB & other Steam tracker sites can't tell where it's blocked in yet, but I'm positive the whole Southeast Asia region (except maybe Singapore) got blocked.

Any particular reason why, Sega? Or are we dealing with a Square Enix situation (Nier:Automata, FFXIV) where they blocked us for no reason at all & had to get massive complaints to get the ball rolling months after release? Or even never?

Keep in mind that every other Yakuza games on Steam were released here too. I'd like to know why, and if possible, reverse this decision and make it truly worldwide available on Steam.

The only reason why 7 got region locked is because Sony decided to be an a**hole and make it a region exclusive. Glad that next month it will be over and SEA people finally can play it.

Ah, thanks for that.

Why though?

This doesn't make sense, does Sega not own rights to the franchise? It has been for every other Yakuza games here, and I hear nothing about problems with their dev teams or anything pertaining rights to SEA region.

Making the game completely blocked in not only SEA, but the whole Asia would incur the wrath Squeenix saw when they released Automata on Steam.

Uh, Steam already has an automated regional pricing system. And you can disable that & make your own prices if you don't want it (eg. Jedi: Fallen Order, Nier:Automata after it released in SEA, post-Fallout 4 Bethesda/ZeniMax games).

Again, really does not see the reason to block the game from certain regions. If anything, this is a bad rep a fellow Japanese AAA has experienced and definitely shouldn't be taken as a stellar example to follow.

I mean with physical copies in that region.

Then they could've just delayed the release in Asia, instead of blocking it altogether.

I still don't get it. There are multiple ways to do this, but they chose to do this instead while barely giving official words to people (only out of select game journalism sites).

Sure, Sega might not have known this, but the whole Southeast Asia region isn't new to Steam region locking abuse by Japanese companies. There's Metal Gear Rising by Konami back in early 2010s (which is still not available here and also one of the most pirated titles ), then there are also multiple Square Enix titles that are so troubled, they had to get Bandai Namco to localize it for us since last year.

They could've made two separate IDs (which doubles the entry price & future maintenance, but what does 200USD upfront even mean for Sega?) and keep the region locking. Or they could've just delayed it altogether so it becomes a simultaneous worldwide release, like AAAs love to market.

But they chose the silent, slightly anti-consumer way of doing this. Sure, I'm approaching this calmly, but I know that thousands of players from Asia would blindly rage the moment they found out that Yakuza 7 got region blocked, regardless of reasoning. It happened to get Nier:Automata to release months after everyone else, it would happen to Yakuza 7 too even though it'll only be a misunderstanding.

Halo, apa kabar?

I'm sure this is 100% Sony Japan/Asia and Sega Japan Deals for EA & SEA exclusivity in exchange with Sony do localization for Korean and traditional Chinese language. As same as Nier Automata (with SE).

Proof: Nier A at the time of released at PC absence of korean and chinese language which available for PS4 version of the game. And SE even deleted the PC regional EA-SEA prices and change it all to be par with the western one.

Sony (in)famously known for like to make exclusive deal for Japanese made games (MHW-Asia region, NiOh-western region, NierA- Asia, Sakura Taisen/Wars-Asia, Persona 5 royal-worldwide, etc )

Bruh, if what you've just said was true, then you've successfully made me hate Sony even more. And that's already a feat since they're now involved in DMCA-ing everyone that talked badly about TLoU2.

Oh, dan itu juga bikin kabarku sama sekali tidak baik-baik saja lmao. Thanks for the info though, I really need it when companies do ♥♥♥♥ like this.

Yup this is the most bothering Playstation practices this gen beside no BC with PS3/2/1 and I say as the one who have PS4 and vita TV beside PC, Switch and 3DS.

As you can see with Playstation Asia/Japan internal first party studio output this gen:
- Gravity Daze/Rush 2
- The Last Guardian
- Bloodborne only for music and producer role (all other role especially production ones: Creative/Scripting/Art and Director all by FS) thats why they never can make BB2 or remake the first game without FS

That's it, three high profile game only in the span of 6-7 years of this gen so their Japan/Asia main strategy is to spend all their budget money into make an exclusive deal (timed or full) with mid and big third party Japanese studios in order to add more "value" to their platform.

To be fair, Sony moved their HQ to California (infamous for its own reasons) back in 2013. For what reason, we can only speculate based on how they're acting atm.

From Software has become Souls Software ever since 2015, so it's not exactly a hard feat getting them to make another Souls-like game. Activision got them, Bamco got them again (after saying they'll "part ways" because of DS). Certainly easier than making them fulfill their own promise of another Armored Core game.

I dunno how the law goes internationally, but exclusivity without making it clear should be illegal.

On IGN Summer of Gaming today , They said Y:LaD will be Day 1 for all platform incl. Steam.
Please SEGA, Day 1 too for Asian Region. Or at least, give a store access for wishlist soon or later so we can access the store content first.

Thank you for the clarification.

So far, there's no info update on its release date--both on Steam & SteamDB. They have been tinkering with it; with the package receiving multiple updates. But without a price tag, we can't really figure out where it's blocked and where it isn't.

SEGA moderators, if you read this, you really need to contact your higher ups and fix this up.
