Weapon Wheel
Once / if all gun slots are done, I reckon a weapon cycling wheel is called for as an alternate selection path for weapon switching. Even if its a mod.

Something that can be rebound to anything for personal preference.
Although I would suggest Middle Mouse Button (MMB) in order to allow Scroll up or down for Variant Switching due to Wheel Weapon Switching.
Thus MMB to bring up a wheel in the bottom right corner.
Wheel select highlight is tied to mouse look.
Selection upon MMB release to allow for shooting in combat.
Once selected, simple scroll up or down will provide access to rest of its variant options.

The 1 to 5 format of weapon select is using inputs on the hand that is often in control of mobility, without enough weapon switch flexibility on the hand that guides the firepower.
I'm considering getting a mouse with a number pad for the personal preference of drawing the handcannon with the hand that makes the shoot shoot logistics.

Going beyond 6 weapons becomes a bit of a hop for the mobility hand, and a bit of a leap of faith for the firepower one to select a gun consistently.
At this point I figure folk would want to juggle guns with both hands without forcing one to ride a unicycle scroll wheel...

We already have that in the game mate! Hold Q! :)

That being said, I would like it to be slightly more refined, allowing like showing us the variation, it'll switch too!

That binding needs to be separate, the hold to activate is jarring for a solid fast switch.
The slow time is a tempo breaker....
Not exactly ideal.
But the infrastructure is there...

On Q, as is, is fine... its an alright crutch of a shortcut, but the slow down time speed could have an option to be turned off through menu.

Locking out all mouse aim altogether is quite restrictive, both ought to overlap as the weapon is only selected on the release.
Although playing in slow mo with aim is clutch unless we get a slow time independent of the Wheel Wheel.
Probs tied to energy, probs combined with hard damage...

A quick switch wheel with no delay, no slow down... bliss.
Selecting firepower as fast as snappy as keybindings from a weapon wheel is desirable.
That's a weapon selection system that know how to please a murder robot.

Does need a Variation Preview with Its colour on the wheel.
Possibly a grey preview image of the highlighted weapon overlapping the current weapon.
