When will the next major update come?

most likely some time next month in December, unless a delay is announced. We know 8-1 is done, 8-2 is likely done, otherwise almost completely done, 8-3 at the very least has good progress and we don't know about 8-4. The devs mentioned, in regards to the deadline of a 2025 release (which has been the plan since the first proper trailer in June) that they did not believe a delay to be necessary at the moment, contrary to community expectations.

no, the encores are just levels with no ties to the story

If it doesn't come out by 2026 I'd probably try a run in a harder difficulty setting just so I get more heated up for it.

I'd imagine 1.0 (That's Treachery + all the other withstanding major content, excluding the encores) should be out by 2026, Fraud is 4 of the game's most technically complex levels ever, and it's not yet been a year since the main work began for those, so unless Treachery has some really mad ♥♥♥♥♥ it shouldn't take quite as long.

UKMD might add some time, also considering Brutal is apparently gonna receive rebalances with it. P-3 will also come with 1.0 which will add some time, but I do think a 1.0 release for 2026 is very possible. I don't think the game has ever had a major update which has taken an actual full year before, don't quote me on that though.
