ULTRAKILL

ULTRAKILL is alright
It’s one of those pieces of media where despite the huge popularity and it grabbing the internet by the balls, it never clicked with me. Sure, It has a cool aesthetic. It has a better horde mode than DOOM Eternal. But again, I never clicked with it like others did, despite liking games like Titanfall 2 and DOOM Eternal.

I think the biggest reason as to why I’m not into this game are the guns. They feel floaty, weightless, and the feedback is lacking. My biggest pet peeve when it comes to a lot of indie shooters is how guns feel a bit mediocre. I know there’s a lot more to games than just their gameplay, but when your game that’s all about shooting people in the face feels dull, I’m not gonna play for very long. The only indie shooters I can think of at the top of my head with decent or great feeling guns are Prodeus, Trepang2, Severed Steel, Boltgun, and Selaco.

I feel like there’s barely any criticism this game gets, and I think there should be more of it. If you love a game, you should acknowledge it’s faults, not just what it does well.

The thing is that what people, including me, love most is the gameplay and guns. Theyre not supposed just to be "shoot guy", each weapon has a purpose. Try using sawblades against a horde of filths. Try using jumpstart nailgun against a boss. Do you complain punching people doesnt work well against far away enemies? Hell, ultrakill is the game with the greatest weapon feedback ive ever seen. If you use alt shotgun, the entire game completely freezes if you get to red gauge. How are you using the weapons so they feel weightless?

And its not like the game doesnt have bad stuff either. Some bosses are too easy, some weapons are useless, you could even call every encounter with too many enemies a bit unfair because while you can win, its almost impossible to do it hitless. Argue some levels have difficulty spikes. But not that guns are bad. Even argue the bosses are bad. The enemies, the areas, the lore, the secrets, but not the guns.

I’ve forgive V2 and beat him a few times at this point. But yea, I agree.

I’ve flipped coins and switched to the rail cannon, and I’ve used the charge pistol on a blue shotgun blast.

That explains it. Railcoining isnt that good ngl, and im not even sure if shooting the cores with the charge does anything.

conduction is really powerful. Parries are the best thing in the game. use coins mainly for minor extra damage (example, against drones). Screwdriver deals more damage than electric railcannon and also heals you. Jumpstart is amazing. Alt shotgun can deal more damage than any other attack if used properly. knuckleblaster is useful for hordes, and more. Sry if i was rude.

you have 500 hours on the game

this is just not true lol
altsman deals great damage, screwdriver can shred high health enemies (hakita even did this in the 3-1 revamp video), and firestarter is nice for crowd control, deals good damage over time, allows you to destroy malicious faces even more by having them lose their explosive resistance, and makes insurrectionists easier to kill

...yeah? the game is not designed with hitless in mind

this does not feel weightless
Ok, fair enough. Probably should’ve said the guns felt like toys.

Ya gotta do everything in a "fancy" way
The game gets FUNNER when you get better since you start to challenge yourself with difficult weapon technique's, i do agree that guns AT FIRSTA FEELS mediocre, when you started, P rank everything before making a review. :)
It has a "complex weapon mechanic" for a reason trust me YOU'LL REALIZE HOW MUCH DO CAN DO WITH A COIN ALONE, but everyone has a taste in games.

I do agree that this game is of over hyped, but i'm kinda mixed on the gun argument. On one hand i think the sound design is insanely punchy and gives good feedback on what your doing, but on the other hand i feel like it mixes to well with everything to the point where sometimes you cant even hear your own shooting over all of the other stuff happening around you. Also i'm pretty sure they were meant to feel kind of weightless (which still doesn't really make sense since one of them is a freaking portable rocket factory) to give the game more of a fast paced feeling. The game does what its trying to be in the right way, but it all still comes down to preference.

Um...

1. Parries are good, no issue there.
2. Coins are the most phucking overpowered thing in the game. Slab puts out absurd amounts of damage if you have good timing, and splitcoins on the normal marksman can clear rooms for you. They conduct electricity, you can reflect basically any hitscan attack off of them,
3. Electric Railcannon is stupidly powerful with railcoining. It's about how you position the coins; you can position them in such a way that they get pierced multiple times with a single railcoin shot. For example if faced with a Cerberus, you fire two coins through it and throw two coins up, then railgun the coins, you'll one shot him. Firing a single coin into a Maurice and firing the railgun through him will one tap him.
4. Screwdriver is good, but its damage isn't what you use it for unless you punch it.
5. Yes, the jumpstart IS amazing. Especially in combo with nails and
6. Yes, the jackhammer IS great.
7. The Knuckleblaster really doesn't do that much AoE damage with its shockwave, you can't kill anything above a filth with a single knuckleblaster blast. It IS however very useful for one-punching obnoxious enemies like soldiers.
