encore levels are not fun on brutal
i love a good challenge, and i love the concept behind the encore levels, but some of the encounters are just terribly unfun on brutal.

0-E
1st, the first radiant swordsmachine. WHY IS THE ROOM SO SMALL?!?!?! he can move across the entire room in under a second, and god forbid you enrage him, cause he'll straight up hit the entire room with his swings. he moves so fast it could be considered instant transmission for gods sake.
2nd, the idol'd maurice encounter. you put an enemy that can fire 15 projectiles per second among schisms, soldiers and cerberi (all enemies who can also spam projectiles), and then you make him invincible on top of that. all in one tiny box. the only way to beat this encounter is to spam dodge and feedbacker. I'm sure this encounter would be just fine if there were a bit more space, but that might require a lot more work than just "enlarging the room".
3rd, the guardians of hell. two radiant cerberi who spam their rush attack, making it near impossible to dodge them because not only are they on crack, but they're already fast as ♥♥♥♥ on brutal, and their rush is a two hit combo too. its pretty annoying, but this is probably the least offensive encounter in the encore levels, as you can use the vertical shaft in the ceiling to make avoiding their rushdown much easier.

1-E
1st, the fan shaft. i really like the concept of this encounter, but falling to your death because the whiplash just barely missed the teleporting mindflayer or a virtue because the hook passed through their wings feels a bit unfair. this problem would be much worse if not for the pipes up above you can climb on, that is, if you can get up there. thats more of a problem with the whiplash then the encounter, and i'll say i think this encounter is very cool.
2nd, the guttermen over lava. these guys, in combination with sentries, all of them being hitscan enemies who don't miss if they get time to aim, in a room where you don't have much of any solid ground to stand on. its hard to kill both guttermen at once when you don't have anywhere to stand, especially while you have to dodge their constant gunfire, so when you kill one, 2 sentries appear so you have to target them to stop them from instant killing you, but the gutterman is still firing, and by this point his bullets will be near impossible to avoid. not a fan of this one.
3rd, the boss fight. AGONY AND TUNDRA WITH A IDOL'D MASS, ♥♥♥♥ THIS ENCOUNTER. this encounter is unreasonably difficult, not just because there's three boss enemies in one room and two of them you have to kill at the same time to beat them, but also because this fight is basically rng. tundra constantly spams the shotgun if you aren't right up in their face, hideous mass covers the ENTIRE ARENA IN HITBOXES, and agony rushes you down and starts zooming around you so fast you can't really fight him without being 20 feet off the ground, and even when you are they both start firing shotguns and throwing swords SIMULTANEOUSLY. then when you get to the second part, the hideous mass becomes RADIANT, and there's NO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CHECKPOINT IN THIS FIGHT, so if you die to the hideous crack addict you have to kill agony and tundra all over again. why did you make this fight harder than minos prime, please fix hakita

i will say, i really like these levels and on any other difficulty they are fun, but the small enclosed spaces of 0-E or the lack of ground in 1-E combined with enemies that move faster than bullets makes some of these encounters just annoying

i also think the radiant enemies are quite unbalanced in general on brutal difficulty, some of them are alright, but others are just bullet sponges that move faster than you can even shoot (im looking at you Drone and Swordsmachine) and will kill you in a mere 3 hits. AND ON TOP OF THAT HARD DAMAGE, FU

Brutal is pretty brutal, I don't think it was designed to be balanced beyond the top % of skilled players, let alone mix it with post-game levels.

I have over 400 hours in this game, nearing 500. I have P-ranked every level on violent twenty times over. I do (albeit very casual) speed running for select levels I like. That said, I am only just now starting to work on P-Ranking all of Brutal. Brutal is- well, brutal.
skill issue
Jokes aside - It would be mostly """ok""" if not very tight areas to fight. Because of those i dont wanna use pumpjack ever again, it just straight downside, there no space to gain speed, or if you do so there no space to get back to fight without any drawbacks, like trying be away with blast you getting yourself either down to instant killzone (shaft with MF and virtue, hello) or lava on E-1.

Just first area to fight is 2x2m, but at least you can jump high above to dodge, what you cannot say about radiant cerberus in the end, because they have zero delay between attacks and just spam balls in your face every half second. Without enrage. It seems their aoe is bigger than regular one?

as a brutal player who has p ranked every level including p-2: yeah, encore levels are unbalanced. hope that they reassess brutal changes at some point.

Wasn't the point to GO extreme in encounters?

The fan room requires precise hooking/air maneuverability/twitch aim whilst falling. I think that is the reason it is fun.

The walls in the lava gutterman fight allow you to block line of sight from the other gutterman/sniper, and dealing with 1 sole sniper, especially since the lava is not instakill, is very much doable.

Also, the swordmachines throwing swords is a really good way to deal damage to them swiftly by parrying them.

I p ranked it, one of my friends did it in first day.

Just don’t play it on brutal
As a rusty ass veteran who hadn't played in about a month- NO, they aren't unbalanced.

I beat 0-E in 8 minutes with 1 restart on my FIRST run. If you can't get the PERFECT ranks, on HIGHEST difficulty, on the HARDEST levels, then don't try to play the hardest levels on the hardest difficulties perfectly!
