Lore question: What's the deal with gluttony?

It's always felt like 3-1, 3-2, and P-1 don't take place in the gluttony layer of hell; they take place inside the corpse of king minos. I figured it only says "gluttony" in the level transition screens because it'd be weird if that set of levels was called "the inside of the corpse of king minos" instead of "gluttony", and "gluttony" as a name fits thematically anyway.

So, is there a separate, actual gluttony layer you never see cuz you go straight to greed after beating gabe? What's that layer like?

Fairly certain Hakita has confirmed gluttony is gluttony, not minos’s corpse. We just happen to get there through Minos.
If it was his corpse though, why would his heart still be beating?

You are inside the body and digestive system of corpse minos (who is probably still being kept alive by the parasites in his body). It could be symbolic as you read in the books that he wanted to stop the tyrannical reign of the angels within ultrakill. Maybe that was his gluttony? His body being a shell for gluttony of hell, as the parasites who took over him. also it could literally be because your probably in his digestive system (as food, over eating stuff like that is associated with gluttony)

gluttony is gluttony, the red rooms (more like the tubes) are like teleporters between layers, this one just so happened to appear inside of minos' mouth, this was pretty much confirmed by hakita, i don't remember if it was twitter or discord, but yeah, gluttony is a digestive tract because gluttony is very much linked with eating a whole lot, put a pinch of abstraction and you get yourself a meat layer or pulsating flesh and digestive acid

gates between bits of hell are funky. say, a hallway or the entrance to a candystore can spontaneously become an 'exit' or an 'entrance' to another part of hell when you're not looking. however for gameplay reasons they're consistent.

what probably happened is ""hell"" decided 'yeah, this fleshy corpse-throat-tunnel in the lust layer, right above the gluttony layer, is a gate down to the gluttony layer', and so it was.
