But when you download r2modmanager and play with it, i don't think that it changes your original save file. But i may be wrong. If you want more information about modding ultrakill, you can check out my guide.
No mods can damage your save files. The few ones that do change progression and add new weapons (very kindly) create their own custom 6th slot.
I highly recommend you get into modding at some point after P-2, there is one mod that adds over 70 new custom levels, many of which are custom campaigns, and another loads custom levels you can create with a level editor or download from other users.
