no matter how "safe" a site is, you are still downloading from a random person on the internet, they can very easily put malware into the game and youd have no idea
"oh but ive been pirating games since forever and never gotten anything!!!"
you think you havent because malware isnt as in your face as youd be led to believe, most malware nowadays is completely silent, it does its thing then disappears, which makes it really hard to know if you actually got any viruses from a pirated game, since even if you scan with an antivirus afterwards, by then the virus is already gone
now there are tools you can use to mitigate the chances of getting a virus (such as virustotal) but even then, youll never be 100% safe when pirating, the only safe form of piracy is downloading roms, and even then some emulators (like old versions of project 64) have vulnerabilities that let games escape the emulator and run code on your actual pc, which opens the door to a ♥♥♥♥ ton of really bad malware. you can never be safe when pirating
It sounds like you're the one downloading from random people on the internet and not anyone who's trusted with piracy and has things to lose if they were exposed for having malware in their cracks. I specifically stated that there's no extra risk or effort if you know what you're doing.
if you want more ULTRAKILL, then they need some ULTRACASH.
And no, the devs will not personally contact you just for purchasing their game.
I literally admitted that.
antiviruses dont protect you from viruses, they will catch the basic ones, but anything better will just slip through the cracks, again, viruses are as sneaky as possible to not get caught, so even if you havent noticed anything it doesnt mean youre safe, because malware like info stealers are near impossible to detect unless you really know what youre doing
you are never 100% safe when pirating, because at the end of the day, every file you download is from a random person hosting a website with pirated games in it, and you have 0 clue if anything extra is added to the game, which is why its much more preferable to get games from actual store fronts like steam, because you are NEVER getting malware when downloading a game from steam, period
