Is easy to have the Game free with Piracy, but on the same time is a risk.
How they earn that profit is up to them, it could be tarnishing a franchise for quick money or keeping good trust in a fanbase for the long term. But if every dev had their way, they should absolutely take the path of profit. And piracy is a significant loss of profit, even in great products.
These devs are against piracy. It makes no logical sense for someone who needs money not to like money. They just want you to think they're humble, so they can possibly earn more from others.
Why you complain about it if you could refund - Is a question.
I was specifically telling you that Hakita only "supports" piracy because of the good pr generated from that. Obviously, if there was a way to prevent piracy without generating negative pr, I'm sure many developers would flock to that option.
Besides, why pay for something you already pirated? The only possible reasons to care would be any form of online multiplayer or steam exclusive features such as the workshop.
You should not be paying for something if only to "support the developers" as they will never personally know you. Developers should only ever support piracy if being openly against it generates less profit. It's all about making money and Hakita knows that many people find seemingly humble or friendly developers much easier to buy from. But the truth is still that they are either pro profit or pro piracy and there's no inbetween.
It seems you two just see your money as disposable and unimportant.
If they don't care why should anyone else?
I own over 4 times the games you do just on Steam.
This is probably it.
Only a liar would actually say it's ok to steal from them.
