why is it that people to this day still compare ultrakill to doom eternal?

they both play completely differently. they have different mechanics and level structure. enemy design is also completely different. the guns act nothing like doom eternal's weapon mods.

like, the only thing that *might* make doom eternal an objectively worse game is the sheer amount of bugs. but it's still like 98% playable.

seriously, when it comes to both of these games it's just about preference. as well as this, i feel like people confuse inspiration with similar gameplay. like, sure v1 has dashes but they function differently to doomguy's dashes. same thing with the ground pound, doomguy has the hellbreaker that actively stuns enemies whereas v1's launches enemies into a nice air combo. and like everything else, they both feel super different to use.

in conclusion: having similar features does not equal similar gameplay, and this goes for both doom eternal and ultrakill. thank you for coming to my ted talk .

i guess what i really meant was like, people say that they're similar and they're obviously not. but to this day people still say that they are similar. and in that comparison they consider one game better than the other, as if they are the same game. the only similarity is within the genre, but because they play completely differently it's impossible to say which is the better game. just because they're in the same genre does not mean they play similarly and therefore it is unfair to judge if either is the better game.

you should mention it from the get-go btw. it's easy to believe you criticize comparisons in general, whereas it's pretty natural to do and does not necessarily imply calling one or the other superior. that'll clear further misunderstandings from newcomers itt.
