I told myself "I just need to git gud game perfect" for a while at first on my first time, then I trusted my instincts there might be something wrong with the game instead because it seems to deal really poorly when enemies are by walls/invisible walls in general, and oh hey, parry town.
I could also swear the game was refusing to give me blood at times when I was above the wall grab hands while hugging the wall, but that was a bit too frantic a moment to really nail down as "Did that actually happen?" Vs "Try to parry with my back to the wall, watch my fist clip through theirs forever. Parry with my eyes closed after a wild 45 degree twist of the mouse at ground level, parry, parry, parry MORE PARRY" being more standout from repetition.
When he feels like he is working as advertised, much more fun even on Violence, rather than a weary sigh on default difficulty.
EDIT: Comedy Pro Tips Time.
"Did you make sure you are using the default blue hand and not the red hand?"
idk if this helps
1) Watch for golden flashes (applied to all melee attacks gamewise). Blue – dodge only.
2) All his attacks (besides snake) are named and called out by MP.
3) “JUDGEMENT” can be parried, but you still get damaged, unless you perfect dodge frame after.
4) MP's combo attacks only parryable at last attack.
5) (at least on standard+ difficulty AFAIK) rule 3 and 4 must be ignored as his punches become unparryable.
6) MP's snake attack are always parriable, and is recommended due to projectile tracking. Also, good source for style points and damage.
7) Stick to the ground, unless shockwave. “DIE” attack can be countered by using 2 stamina by following actions in quick succession – jump, side dodge, dodge towards Minos, slam.
