My personal theory is as such: God is the guy who sent v1 into hell; if only as a means of finally killing it and washing his own hands of the mess so he wouldn't have to think of it. I personally imagine God fleeing the flaming pile of gobshite he created, seeing V1's own lethality and going "Y'know what, ♥♥♥♥ it, let's burn the whole damn thing to the ground" as he sparta-kicks the inactive v1 into hell before drowning his sorrows in a pan-dimensional hyper tavern.
As a Christian, this honestly goes kinda hard ngl

I wonder how basically ancient war machines (V1,guttertanks,guttermen, etc.) were re-activated and renovated after such a long time of being abandoned? Does hell have D.I.Y. skills or what? Mabye hell paid machines to do it for them for points... but that wouldn't be a sound choice for the machines, more competition you know?
because of the fact that earthmover is mostly composed of flesh and etc organic matter (the actual 1000-THR we fight is a technologically augmented brain) and the fact that all non-exploding machines drop fleshy gibs in some way, I'm thinking that humanity, in its bid to overpower their war enemies, found a way to create horrific imitations of themselves to fuel the weapons they wish to deploy.

This would suggest that, if left without fuel (blood or sunlight), then machines could hypothetically 'die'. However, there's strong sentiment toward the remaining machines running off to Hell to not have to die to get there.

Act III seems to be a weird vision from the past, during the era of wars or whatever it's called. Maybe V1's entry has been tampered with or is just flat out wrong, but it's possible that V1 was created during the war and V1 fought in pretty much every part of it, including when trench warfare was common with bombings, Guttermen and Guttertanks, then got into some sort of sleep state. Maybe he got captured in some way, or its creators were terrified of the possibility that V1 might turn on them once it's done, so they turned it off. This sleep state could be what the Forest of Suicide represents. This limbo state when V1 was not dead but wasn't awake either. Over that sleep period, Earthmovers took over the war and pretty much bulldozed the Earth. Either someone happened to find the sleeping V1 or its creators had no other choice but to reawaken it, but V1 was turned on and immediately started dealing with the Earthmovers, but just as it was predicted, it didn't stop at them (maybe as its blood supply started running dry, it had to resort to killing humans).

This theory is of course full of holes. It straight up ignores V1's entry in the console (as far as we can tell, there is only a single V1 prototype, while mankind was wiped out by a whole species of robots, also V1 was finished by the time the Era of Eternal Peace started, which is why there is only a single prototype of it), does not explain why there was an era of Peace, what is V1's "kind" that everyone keeps referring to and heavily hinges on the next chapter continuing on this or a similar story path. It is called Betrayal, so either we will see how V1 got knocked out or betrayed, maybe V1 saw humans betraying eachother and deemed them untrustworthy to keep alive.

Also the theory heavily hinges on Violence being a weird vision from the past. Maybe we aren't even in hell anymore. Think about it. Mankind is dead, Hell is pretty much wiped clean, what else is there left? Heaven, which is in a decadent state and without leaders after Gabriel got rid of the council. Violence could very well be the first defence line of Heaven, with repurposed Era of Wars tech dealing with anyone unworthy trying to disturb heaven. And V1 is very much in the process of dealing with that defence line.
Yeah there's alot of holes in your theory but it's good food for thought, personally I see the violence layer as hell's extra special sandbox for clashing it's toy soldiers together (husks, machines, demons, etc), the layer is essentially perfect for simulating the great war so it does just that

Funnily enough, I've heard that scientists have grown a few brain neurons and thought them to play pong... yeah...

That's just canon...

This is a sort of joke headcanon, but imo the reason God left in Ultrakill and why (and this is going off of the pretense that robots ate humanity for fuel, which is only implied) robots killed humanity was that they saw the crimes of lust that were occuring inside Ultrakill's fanbase. /j

My headcannon is that actually John ultrakill killed god and made the angels think that he disappeared, and in the end of the game we will have to kill John ultrakill.
