How to beat gabriel?

I read online you're supposed to hit him while he's talking to heal, but he only heals me for about 5 health before he starts attacking again. What am i supposed to do to heal more?

Get close and shoot. You can use screwdriver to cheese him too.

The default nailgun is your best friend in the fight, use it whenever you can. Overheat at close range, attractor at longer ranges. When he tries to taunt you, shotgun swap or try railcoining him. When he's suspended in the air in between his two phases, go nuts on him and throw nails, bullets, coins, everything you have on him.

there are multiple ways to fight him. You can get in his face and just turn him into a blood fountain, or you can keep your distance and keep moving slowly whittling him down.

Don't take the saw blade in, and maybe use the magnum over the marksman. And yeah, definitely use screwdriver to turn him into a blood fountain. He's gonna come to you, so he might as well heal you when he does.
