i think you misunderstand what subtext is, but that's just semantics—i'm talking about why *showing* it is his go-to. i literally can't think of any other game that shows graphic rape (including penetration) that isn't meant to be erotic. the first surmise my brain goes to is JRPG inspiration -> pseudo-anime design -> rape is popular in japanese culture -> he's desensitized to rape due to hentai, and doesn't quite grasp the gravity of including *depictions* of it in non-erotic games as a shock factor. that's way over the line and makes you question why he thought sprite animations of rape is integral to the atmosphere, when silent hill 2 has dry humping and is 500x more effective as a horror game.

well, my train thought was him wanting to make a heart breaking, cruel game, he used RPGmaker (hence why it looks extremely RPG), raping is one on the upper eschelons of the bad things one can make in life, he used rape alongside body mutilation and a general feeling of disregard for the player to create this ambiance
i won't defend it, it is a bad idea and it is implemented even worse, but saying he is trying to do something beyond developing a bad idea more than he should enters in the realm of speculation, and making assumptions out of speculations is a nono in my book
he is a 20 something from finland, i don't think he got predated as a child or raped, hence why he thinks those acts are abhorrent but didn't grasp the importance of not vanalizing it by just making every other enemy just do it to you
like i said, i won't defend it's inclussion but i understand why he thought it was effective

if there is something i know very well is that there are idiots in any group, for as well intentioned or nice as they can be, there is always a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or someone who thinks they understand the cause/ideals without really understanding ♥♥♥♥, so people defending crap doesn't bother me as long as it is not the mayority i don't tend to care
