ULTRAKILL
Rocket Launcher Nitpick
I spent alot of time on the first act of Ultrakill. Overall, it took me roughly 15 hours over one month of play to Perfect Rank everything and beat Minos Prime. With the amount of time and practice it took to beat some of those stages perfectly, I got alot of muscle memory in my system. Specifically, the weapon rotation. I grew up playing neither PC games nor FPS', so I can't manage hotkeys for guns to save my life. Instead, I am incredibly dependent on the scroll-wheel. With 4 weapons? The scroll is actually super manageable. Any weapon is no further than 2 scrolls away and all it takes is to remember which weapon is in hand to know how many scrolls it'll take to get to my desired weapon.

Then the rocket launcher happened! Don't get me wrong. It's a fun weapon and is a valuable asset for some clutch situations. In particular, I like using the magnet on the machine gun to tag enemies to give my rockets some faint homing. However, what I cannot forgive the rocket launcher for is utterly breaking my groove with weapon swaps. I couldn't tell you the amount of times I've killed myself by sniping something with my railgun, turning over to kill an enemy next to me and then blowing myself up, because I am so used to my next weapon being pistol.

This wouldn't be so bad, except for the fact that the Rocket Launcher has those unfortunate weaknesses against certain enemies. Malicious Faces have become the bane of my existence, because the routine of Railgun, pistol, shotgun on them had become so commonplace to me, now I keep losing time and taking hits, because my mojo getting all screwed up by the rocket launcher awkwardly bloating my quick-swaps. On the other hand though, that thing does come in handy just enough that I feel the need to keep that thing equipped.

Act II has been giving me a hard time in just about every way. It's been a perfect reminder that FPS' are not my wheelhouse in the slightest when it comes to genres I'm even moderately capable in. Now having to scramble to get used to hotkeys as my primary weapon swapping method on top of just trying to P-rank stages normally has certainly not helped in this regard.

Is this rant petty? Is this really not an issue and something I'll eventually grow accustomed to? Yeah, definitely. However, getting to vent small, stupid ♥♥♥♥ out can sometimes be helpful.

a little bit petty
I mean, you could easily just disable the rocket launcher, but I suppose that would be seen as a handicap.
try the weapon wheel (hold Q)

Yeah, I did that for a little bit, but while it has those weak-spots against certain enemies, it is still a pretty good thing to have around. It's one of the least conditional power-weapons in the game. The parried Shotgun requires a certain degree of rhythm to it and only works from certain ranges, the machine gun and railgun are on cooldowns and getting the most out of coins requires dexterity that I just simply do not possess. It's literally just click and shoot. It's only real drawback is that it's splash damage sucks and it scatters mobs, but against elites (Other than Malicious), it's a good tool to just pump easy damage. Besides, it's a rocket launcher. Of course I wanna have it around. Not to mention, as I did state, it's not a tall order to get used to it anyway, so might as well keep it on.
I feel like you should just get used to binds, I mean I understand why it would be annoying to get used to them but itl have better results in the long run as the time where your finger isn't ready to shoot the more times you aren't gonna be able to shoot an enemy about to kill you.
also I use my scroll for variations instead of guns as I KNOW what its going to switch to no matter what (maybe not the rail cannon since there's three vars but c'est la vie)

I use Hotkeys personally, I suggest OP gets into using them. :cq2happy:
As much as your concerns are valid, hotkeys are pretty much a necessary thing.
Know this: don't feel the need to force yourself to the number keys if they aren't working out for you. I use Q, E, R, F, and C for weapon swapping. Way easier on my hands, and allows me to work faster.
in games like this you generally want all the important stuff as close to your fingers as possible so you don't have to reach and take fingers off movement or rely on being lucky with the scrolling. there is a weapon wheel too though I have never used it, either option though would enable much more precision to let you handle most situations on the fly or even think a few steps ahead.

I remember when I first started playing Doom Eternal key rebinds were a necessity there as well for the harder content, it became muscle memory though at some point and the same case is here in this game.
