v1 is just trying to live and is following his programming being a self-sustaining war machine
Mankind is Dead
Hell is Full
I believe the disks are just for nostalgic purposes. Back then some games (I think) were separated into different disks, you'd finish one then put the other in to continue the game.
I can understand why were fighting V2, V1 and V2 are the only models of there kind and were the last machine made for war in mind, they could fight simply to prove they are superior, V2 is the second model but was made with some concessions to be better compatible with peace time, well V1 was made solely for war,so who is better was a question that is unanswered to them.
I assumed robots were diving down because someone had built them/programmed in a contingency that if man kind ever went extinct that these robots would go to hell to end mankind's suffering, but that was just my initial impression, sword machine was certainly fighting the husks in the prolong, and the fire machines were torching limbo before V1 encountered them.
if he just wanted blood he'd been best off staying in the greed layer, it was all flesh.
I suppose it's possible the intended reason machines and husks work together when V1 is nearby is because he's ultra violent as machine made for war, and even the least intelligent husks recognize him as the greater threat well he's nearby.
my greatest lore question is actually why Gabriel didn't say tell the mind flyer to turn back? or attack the other machines? did he tell the one we fight in 4-1 to turn back then it ... did? and we encounter it on the return trip? how did the machine in greed get past Gabriel? I can understand that V2 entered lust after us- and lost ground trying to find a way into gluttony, so he could have gotten in well Gabriel was gone, and sense he can fly the sands of the dust layer would bother him less (can he fly I? thought he could? he has a graphing hook that's very useful there either way) so he could still have gotten ahead of us by the boss fight.
