Nailgun is your best source of consistent damage in this fight, with railcannon shots and coin ricochets being good for short bursts of high damage. His ranged attacks can be parried, though the timing is rather strict. Sliding is generally better than dashing for avoiding certain attacks, particularly his downwards spear thrust that happens when he teleports above you.

Slide when he does the spear dive. slide-jump away from the thrown axe/sword attacks. Dash-jump away from the greatsword melee combo.

I have some tips in the description of my video if you would like to take a look: https://youtube.com/watch?v=edWvW011ZNU

- During Gabriel's transition into his second phase, you can use the revolver or railgun to knock him into the air and delay his tranformation up to four times. Use this to shave off some extra health.
- The alternate revolver and railgun are the most useful weapons for this fight. The alternative revolver is a secret weapon you can find by completing a series of tasks in the Limbo (1-x) levels. Here's how to get it: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2221288529
- Dashing, dash-lunging, and sliding play the biggest factor in your survival. A lot of Gabriel's dash attacks can be avoided by just sliding across the arena and changing directions away from his path, but his mid-air dash attack can only be avoided by well coordinated dashes. Stamina conservation is important.
- On Violent difficulty, Gabriel's second phase has a dagger attack that homes in on the player. You can't dodge this (i think) so make sure to get close and steal health from Gabriel before the attack finishes.

I never needed to slide when fighting Gabriel, but then again, I was only playing on Normal difficulty. I did notice that his attack where he flies above you and strikes downwards may be tricky to dodge. He might be leading his shots a bit depending on how you move around. Sometimes I've been able to dodge it while other times he hits me where I was dashing to.

Sliding is good when you're low on stamina and want to save stamina for his air attacks, since his air attacks require dashes to dodge properly. His other attacks are very easy to dodge with some very clever strafing and sliding which is why you want to save some energy for when he goes ham.

my strat is to dash jump + slide jump around the arena while using the charge on revolver from far away, quickdraw shotgun up close to heal, and malicious rail cannon whenever it charges

Sliding is really useful on Violent because, while it halts stamina regeneration, it also pretty consistently avoids the spear dive without the same need for timing and stamina consumption as dashing.

this, but keep in mind that dashing is usually more reliable.

Usually yes - Gabriel is currently an exception, though, because sliding under the spear dive is currently guaranteed to avoid it, while dashing needs to be more carefully timed.

I just keep sliding and shooting him constantly with my revolver and that works on phase two

You have to dash and slide. I used the nailgun and shot him with a magnet so I can focus on dodging his attacks rather than aiming. also shoot him with the railgun when he starts taunting you, as he usually stands still then, this should give you enough time to aim at his head and deliver a shot.
