Jan location POST Goblin's Dilemma quest

Hi everyone, I've finished the Goblin's Dilemma quest and have taken care of the goblins. I went back to Jan's house to check on him and Marisa to see she's fine, but the house is empty.

I remember him mentioning a cave briefly behind the house, but there is no cave and I cannot find them, any help?

There is a cave behind the house, towards the right edge of the cliff. You cannot see the entrance because a tree and a couple bushes are in the way. There is a little dirt patch on the ground where you need to walk.
