why can't i make this game windowed?
it's forced full screen and i can't seem to control this in any way.

this upsets me more than anything because i actually really liked the look of this game, but i can't move it onto my tv. it's kind of an utter disgrace.

I don't own unravel, i refunded it back then... I just tried special k on hyperlight drifter, a game i had similar issues on, and the game just refuses to run with special k running. I don't want to be wasting time and money just on the offchance it works.
I haven't yet, but I'll give it a go by the weekend. Something else to consider, is that the engine that a game is built with will determine the features and limitations of a game. Unravel was likely built from the ground up to run on the PS3 since it was built with Sony's PhyreEngine, and that engine doesn't support a windowed mode for obvious reasons.

Edit:
Alright, I dl'd the latest SKIF archive, unzipped it, launched SKIF. I enabled the Global Injector, launched Unravel from the Steam Games Management tab, opened up the Special K control menu, clicked Display in the menu bar, clicked the dropdown that said Fullscreen Mode and selected Windowed Mode. Next, expand the Window Management tab, changed Cursor Boundaries to Unrestrict Cursor and right clicked until the menu came up, used arrow keys to select Move, hit Enter, then used the arrow keys to move window over to my TV. Finally, change Window Layering to No Preference.

Here's the link for the SKIF:

Okay, so here’s a short installation guide:

Download the Special K 78 archive and extract it to a place of your choice.

Launch SKIF that resides in the folder you extracted to. You can run it either with or without the Steam client running.

Through SKIF, you can launch the global injector and it will automatically initialize Special K in all processes that matches its whitelist (configurable through SKIF), but which basically defaults to all processes launched from a location that resides under a SteamApps folder.
Note, global injection remains running even if SKIF is closed so be sure to stop global injection if you don’t want it running in the background.

Game is literally unplayable for me. My monitor is 240hz capable, but my machine does not have a displayport port to support that refresh rate. So some games will try to launch running at 240hz over an HDMI connection and I'll get a black screen. Running a game windowed at least prevents shenanigans like this from happening. This is the bare minimum and EA can't even do that.

On Win10 right click the Desktop and click on Display Settings. Scroll down to the "Multiple Displays" section and click the drop-down box, then click "Extend these displays". Scroll back to the top and click the display that represents your TV. Scroll back to the drop-down box and click the tick box beneath it that says "Make this my main Display. This will make all apps open on the TV.

You can set the Refresh Rate of your Display in the Win10 Display Settings. Right click the Desktop and click on Display Settings. Scroll down to the "Multiple Displays" section and click the blue text that says "Advanced Display Settings". Now click the blue text that says "Display Adapter properties for [Display Number]". Click the tab labeled "Monitor". Now click the drop down box and select an appropriate refresh rate for HDMI like 60 Hz or 120 Hz. All games should now run at this maximum refresh rate with V-sync on.

It's not as simple as that.
There are a plethora of reasons why people have a specific monitor set as the main monitor.
some reasons include icon arrangements, program default size and position for various programs that have multi monitor layout, windows' propensity to not play nice with monitor positioning and/or resolutions, etc.

A person should not have to fiddle about with their monitor setup and risk messing stuff up just because a developer left out the most basic fundamental options from their game.

Well, I can't really help that a game made by a small team on a low budget doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a modern AAA title. I've given you an option to manage this, but if you're really afraid you'll bork something by switching which display is the "Main" with Windows then you can try Special K. Install the frame work, start the game and then press CTRL+SHIFT+BKSpace to open the Special K Control panel. From here you can open the Display menu select "Windowed Mode" and toggle "Force Override".

You can find the link for Special K in the guide here:

well I wouldn't call EA a small team and they published this so I am sure EA could have stepped in and sorted it... but in any case..
Thank you for this link. I didn't realise special K was for many games. I had a mod from special K for nier automata but I figured it was a unique plugin mod for that.

EA didn't make the game, they only published it, and I believe the deal was made after it was coded. That means they had nothing to do with the coding. A small Swedish team developed it on a very small budget. The game was only $20 USD when it released.
