No sound?
Every time I try to start the game there's no audio. Is this deliberate?

Also steam has ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up my guide and some of the pictures are missing, so that's fun. :aunope:

How difficult is it to unpack the audio files? Sounds like it's still an issue and I want to play it with sound :/

Edit- I got it working using your guide, thank you so much for posting it. It’s still easy to follow even with the missing photos. Text alone was enough for me to follow the steps.

Just happy to help more people get their money's worth, and play what is (serious issues asides) a really unique and interesting FPS. I hope you have fun!

I can already tell that it's a special game, when I heard I heard that it was mostly all done by one person over the course of like a decade, I really wanted to play it. It's really impressive so far, I mean I can see the HL2 DNA but this still feels really unique. Thanks again.

Do you know if the process would work on Steam Deck in desktop mode? Like take extracted files (using GFScape on a Windows System) and put them in the sound folder using the Linux file explorer? It should work in theory, right? (I’m just not much of a Linux person, so I don’t know if Linux needs a different file type or something else I’m not even thinking of…)

Probably should, though I admit I don't know with any certainty.

Ok thanks. I’ll give it a shot. If it works then I’ll make a post about it in case future players wanna run the game on the Steam Deck.

Eyaura doesn't suck, she's a solo developer and this game is honestly amazing. I agree that it shouldn't be this way, but it can be fixed in 5 minutes and is easy if you have even the tiniest amount of experience using windows explorer (or Finder on Mac, or any file explorer).

It doesn't look like you own the game, so I don't know why you're so upset. Freaky Man-Baby made a post with a step-by-step guide (I followed it and had audio working following his instructions) and I will personally volunteer to help anyone get their audio working if they are struggling with trying to use the guide.

The developer is working on a full overhaul of the game and it will eventually be fixed when the ultimate edition drops, just try to understand that small indie creators don't have teams of people and huge publishers to back them and help with support.

Sometime this year
I'll have to refund and ask valve to classify this as unsupported on Steam Deck. I'm surprised to see this has been an unaddressed issue since at least December if not longer. It's a shame, as this game looks absolutely gorgeous..
go to "steamapps\common\G String\gstringv2\gameinfo.txt" then delete the "Game |gameinfo_path|" line inside SearchPaths, wont need anything but a text editor.

Is that literally it? I made a whole guide for unpacking the sound, is it really just modifying a line?

I had the same question, after following that guide. Not that it was especially difficult, but did require 3rd party software to extract the audio files. I'm gonna test the above mentioned method on my Steam Deck, because I never knew if that application had a linux equivalent (or what the name of it was, if there was one).
Mitigations and workarounds don't make it okay for a problem of this magnitude to still exist. Just release a bloody hotfix

The longer that it's an existing problem, the more I'm inclined to agree. This game is very good and seems to not ever have gained much traction. As such, you would think that the developer wouldn't want to alienate/turn away the few customers that happen to be interested in this game (who haven't played it before).

Supposedly the publisher is having some issues with something about not being able to release a finished game because of being ghosted by the developer or the one who controls the IP and it has led to issues with G-String not being able to be updated or something like that because Lunchhouse doesn't have any way to generate much revenue. I read something about it in the discord server for G-String. I think the idea is that Ayaura is overhauling the game completely before updating it, but that seems unwise given that out of the box the sound doesn't function.

On one hand, it's not hard to fix at all, it took me 10 minutes to research and 3 minutes to fix it. But on the other, the customer shouldn't have to go into the game folder and mess around with things to get audio working.

I think the thing that makes it look like they don't even care is that it's people like me having to explain all of this, and the developer and publisher seem to stay silent about it when it comes up. They should explain why they don't update the game to fix it if nothing else. Unfortunate situation, as the game itself is excellent and deserves to be enjoyed by everyone.
