Horizon's Gate is heavily inspired by UW:NH and is similar but different:
If anyone has recommendations for games like UW:NH, keep 'em coming. I'm always up for more experiences like that.
Google/youtube " uncharted water origins "
There is UW3, and UW4, and 5, and 6. None have english translation. 5 and 6 are mobile games.
Just google Daikoukai Jidai.
Except it won't allow me to view it on Steam (due to not being in English, maybe?)..

Definitely starting to feel hooked like a "one more voyage before I stop" feel. No doubt the game is about 2/3 heavily inspired by UW . At this point I'd say its the closest thing out there.
I've played tons of tactics games. Still not sure how I feel about it here. Not that it's bad I do enjoy it but it's a big bit or micromanaging. Some people will love that though.
A few things i miss from original game though
-Menu indicating overall percentage influence on port so you can see how easily it can be flipped through investment. I'm still trying to figure out how dynamic the world is and if other fleets are significantly impacting investment in ports or nation changes.
-Trade system that isn't just about distance from port. I actually don;t mind the single trade good per city but basing it solely on distance makes all trade goods feel the same. I don;t expect something like patrician as that gets too much into simulation territory.
-Character portraits. I know this is hard to do with all the races but visually in UW it made a big difference seeing captain portraits.
-Recruiting characters. Seems like they are all level 1 and doesn't really matter who you hire which takes away personality wise and idea of finding super characters like gunners and such in the original UW.
All this being said I'm wondering if the developer would ever consider setting up a kickstarter for an unofficial UW3? I feel fully confident they could make an amazing game if they used that universe (might need to consult around history or geography). Could even include some supernatural elements like Atlantis or ghost ships.
Definitely a positive review from me so far,
