Why Guide Chrysolit?
Hello. I like this game a lot. But ... one thing seems to bother me quite a bit. What is the POINT of the guide chrysolit. It shows you the coordinates... yay... who cares? You can access the visual map for free and see everything you need guidance-wise from there. I have yet to find any reason to EVER get one of these things? Can anyone give me a clue as to otherwise?

The easy answer would be precision. There are times when the game will give you coordinates and while you can estimate the general location, the difference between 5-10 of a number can mean a different river than anticipated. This is also useful when it comes to sharing locations between players when it comes to things like lost cargo quests or mod locations.

It also serves as a worldbuilding element for the game

It's like the first thing I buy because it's so useful lol, it's even on the way to Nordock where you can sell the first grain in the first month double the price. It costs 700 (cheap) and as a quality of life item will save you from wasting food wandering around at sea for certain places which will save you money and stress in the long run.

Plenty of quests tell you coordinates, this tells you if you're on the right track

There's a difficulty setting (Sea Dog) that disables seeing your position on the world map.

On that difficulty, the Guide Chrysolit is very helpful for figuring out where you are; it's also important for chasing rumors about locations. And, if you get serious about the commerce, you might stash cargo around the world. That means note-taking, which means coordinates.

Sure, you can skip all that and rely on revealing the map, but that's a temporary solution. Sure, landmarks exist, but sometimes you get them mixed up and suddenly your tight schedule falls apart.
You miss a monthly deal, or your morale tanks from going too long without food, or you lapse on the information brokers, or you fall behind on the next monthly deal so you burn up your budgeted time. I can count maybe three or four occasions, where I'd corrected myself with coordinates.

And also worldbuilding. Honestly, I've considered writing fan-fiction for this game's universe. All the building blocks are there. And if you think this comment was a pleasant read, you'd probably agree about the worldbuilding.
