Ships and Pirates
Hey all -

Loving the game so far. Quick question -

How the HECK do you defeat the pirates at storm cove? I had 4 decked out galleons and got DESTROYED. What gives? I t was so ridiculous I actually thought I was meant to die lol.

Where are all the other ships to purchase? I've bee{ i think } all over the world but can only find galleons as top ship. Where do I buy those cool pirate ships?

Hmm, I defeated the pirates with 2 pinnaces and a carrack, though I lost my whole fleet. You could always as a faction to help you out if you have enough favor with them. (Ask them for an escort)

To get more ships you must invest into ports, certain ports sell certain ships after being invested in. There's a guide showing what ports sell after being invested to 100%

Yeah, I was one-♥♥♥♥ by that lightning weapon they use. Sunk, sunk and sunk! Couldn't even take out one ship and I have the best canons =\

Uh, what? Just how much damage were you taking from the storm cannons? Galleons should not be one-shot by them, or by anything else in the game.
Point-blank attacks by the stormcutters should be doing like 15 damage. Don't let them hit you point blank.

Sorry, Carracks. Still, 32 health each ship .. def got one and two-shotted.

Oh, okay. Well, Carracks are merchant vessels. Get some more expensive ships designed for combat (ones with 40 or more hull should be good), and that battle won't be too bad. Also try not to let them hit more than one of your ships at a time; those storm cannons do damage to an entire line.
Protip: having more crew increases cannon damage. If you want to sink the ships instead of capturing them, you can have up to 9 crew in a ship to gain extra damage. If you want to capture them you only need 5 crew per ship in most cases.

very helpful thank you !!!!
I did it with 3 Drekkars and 2 Xebeks (or however it's spelled) and I think a Brigatine. I didnt actually shoot either of them down, I had 3 ships fit for boarding. Instead of just shooting them, I rushed up and flakked their decks with grapeshot for a turn then boarded them (I had my fleet setup so my boarding ships went last, ensuring that I got the most crew damage in before going on) and hijacked them for myself. They're incredible ships, and the weapons are pretty top tier, if awkward to use.

I lost a Xebek in the process, but 100% worth it.

Great tips thank you !! What are the multiple canon slots for in a ship? I only seem to be able to use one canon per turn, so not sure what the extra canon slots are for?
McFrugal Mar 19, 2020 @ 8:58pm
The extra slots are for cannon variety or non-cannon equipment like nets and boarding gear.

Get a full fleet of boarding ships, 1 Iron Clad in the mix, and just board them relentlessly. Easy win against ANY fleet. That's what I did.

thank you all!

I didn't dare to fight the storm cutters until I had an Iceberg with a lightning cannon, an iceberg with cannons, 2 gallions, 2 ice revers, 2 Drekkers. and I had a merchant ship. I just went up point blank with the iceberg tanking the shots and captured the storm ship. the other one got torn apart by my 8 other ships. If you bring a full fleet it helps a lot. Also getting a storm cannon is super helpful! There is a ruman colony up in the north east of the map that somewhere around 100% sells 1 storm cannon. It works crazy well on the iceberge since it has 98 hull and can just get up close to ships and handle all the damage. Iceburges are in the Rumane faction though idk if you can get them unless you capture one or join their faction.
Just board them.
If you invest in Bagu's Rest, they sell a "nullrose" that gives a ship 50% damage reduction against elemental attacks. That should be enough to weather those elemental attacks until you can board.
