Quest 3 + Virtual desktop
Did anybody get the VR mode for this game running on a Quest 3 with Virtual desktop? I can not toggle to VR mode. get the press - to calibrate. And when I got a gamepad connected it switch to the 3 stripes icon (menu/start button on a gamepad) but all it does is switch back to the menu, Like pressing the - key on the keyboard.

Alright I got it "working" but it breaks the steam controller support. I had to dig out an old xbox 360 controller and plug it in via USB. Steam will only interpret controls for the dual sense in desktop mode and breaks in VR mode, so you have to have a controller it can natively read which seems to be the Xbox controller only.

Anyways

You have to exit the Virtual Desktop streamer on your PC, and make sure SteamVR is closed. Then launch the desktop version of Squadrons. Once the game is launched go to Options > VR Settings and "Toggle VR".
This will launch cause SteamVR to launch in the background which will complain that there is no detected headset.
At this time you start Virtual Desktop Streamer and connected your headset to your PC.
Then, on the SteamVR Error window complaining about no headset detected, click “Reset Headset”
Once it restarts and your headset is now inside the SteamVR lobby, click Toggle VR again in squadrons. This should finally connect.

If you do any of that out of order it will not work. If SteamVR is already open when you launch the game it wont work, if virtual desktop streamer is open when you launch the game it will not work.
You must allow the game to launch SteamVR THEN start Virtual Desktop and “Reset Headset” on the SteamVR Error. Then in-game you must Toggle VR a second time.

Having the exact same issue. Not sure why they chose such an indirect way of entering VR

Hi Adrift, your advice worked! I got to play in VR. :steamhappy:
Hey man, I'm not really sure how you figured that out but its total genius and I finally got this to work. Big thank you
you don't actually need to make the game launch SteamVR via Toggle VR, you can also just launch steam vr manually at the same time as the game. and in my experience you don't need to turn off Virtual Desktop streamer at all, the important part is, that the headset is not connected for some reason, so I make sure to quit or disconnect the VD app on Quest, before doing anything else, and make sure everything is turned off, including game, Steam VR, Virtual Desktop app

then my steps are as this:
1. launch the game
2. launch SteamVR and get the error that it can't detect a headset, but don't click anything yet
3. launch the Virtual Desktop app on the Quest
4. once it's connected, press reset in SteamVR window's error message
5. press Toggle VR in the game window and voila

This also gives you a little more time to react, because pressing Toggle VR starts a 30 sec countdown with a prompt to accept before reverting the setting, this is kind of annoying when having to tab out of the window, launch outside apps like SteamVR and VD
