Incorrect Xbox controller assignments on PC

Hey ya'll.

I am running the game with a new XBOX one controller but the assignments are all over the place. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!

It's a lot of work, but you can assign the controls manually. Just make sure that you are assigning the correct controller. The good news is that once you are done, your profile is saved to you account so you don't have to do it again.

start steam in bigpicturemode and choose your proper controller settings

first thing i did was re-map everything as the defaults are all bad. you dont need to enter big picture mode or anything like that just change them in game.

change in game or in steam settings or choose from community settings is available,
reset to default it's not working?
put controller first and run game.

SOLVED!

This was driving me absolutely insane, I tried Uninstaller the game, various drivers, I even tried it on a fresh windows install and I couldn't get it to work... the thing that finally did the trick was downloading the app "Xbox Accessories" from the Microsoft store and updating the firmware of my controller. No remapping needed.

Which... extra crazy, wouldn't have even worked for me as I was getting outputs like dpad down when pressing Y when I tried to use the in game remapping feature (for the *menu behavior section*) oh my God I hope whoever needs this finds this post and saves the week of crazy making of killing processes, uninstalling launchers and apps that you suspect are the culprit and *doing a fresh windows install* to play this game.

Confirmed, my Xbox controller was completely borked playing Squadrons for months and then I updated the drivers using "Xbox Accessories" from MS Store and it's working again!
