There are 2 things at play here.

1.) For the Gray Screen: Reduce your resolution from Fullscreen to windowed in the settings if you can. There is a 'CLOSE' button in the upper right. You will get a 4795 or 4975 error.

2.) The 4975/4795 Error is from your EA account not being able to connect properly to the network and having your 2 factor auth turned on. When the game originally launched, 2FA wasn't enforced, and the handover to the EA network wasn't coded in to deal with the new update. You will have to decide between turning 2FA OFF or ON on your EA account. With it ON you will only be able to play the campaign single player. With 2FA OFF you will have complete access to the network.

EA slacking off as usual.

Oh man thank you for this. I was getting some really confusing answers from the EA Help page.

Turning off 2FA totally did the trick. It's dumb, but it works.

Glad I could help. As an optional step you can unlink your Steam account from EA and relink. Once the accounts are relinked, you can turn on MFA and the former gray screen will have 2 methods to authenticate. You can now pick 2FA and use that code! Admittedly this took a couple of tries to work but it did eventually. I also have the EA app logged in and running on start up.

It might use the email field to pre authorization for EA. You would still need to enter in a password or 2FA is my guess. My one drive is not synched.
