That was causing it to pull the "mouse steering" to one side and cause the shift to have a constant turn as the mouse was still active even though I was using gamepad controls.
I'd potentially check other inputs to your PC in case something is conflicting or influencing input like a mouse or dodgy keyboard. Also try (if you haven't) different USB connections for the controller (if it's wired, or for the dongle if it has one for wireless)

Have tried to have other devices disabled and tried different usb ports, and do to that it shows no inputs in control panel, and same thing with my sons 360 controllers, something must have happened with the game..
May be worth doing the same things with SteamVR as well.
it hapends everytime for me if I type something in the chat, or restore the gime with mouse click after alt tab
And verifying game files did not work eiyher.
Will try reinstalling..
