Targetting
I'm struggling somewhat with quickly finding the target I need in multiplayer, and wondered if anybody has any clever workarounds.

I'd like to be able to quickly find my friend and wingman in multiplayer matches, then to target their attacker. At the moment, I need to select "target friendly squadron" then cycle through to find him, then there is no "target attackers" option as there was in the campaign. It seems like, in order to play effectively as a pair (or eventually, when I have enough friends, a team) this ought to be easier.

Back in the Tie Fighter days (yes, I'm old) this was quite straightforward, you could lock a target to an assignable key, then hit "R" to target the target's attackers. I've scoured the key bindings menu but haven't turned up anything yet.

I suppose I could follow my buddy and use my eyes, but this is only really viable in New Republic ships, as the visibility in Ties is woeful.

I think you have to have your buddy double tap the select new target button which should select their chaser then if they send a ping you can accept it to target their attacker. I know it's awkward but as far as I know that's the quickest way.

I found myself struggling with the targeting wheel aswell. I mapped cycle allies to a seperate key and leave the wheel on enemy squadrons most of the time. This way you can cycle through your allies much faster. Still it would be nice to have the ability to save a target like in Tie Fighter and then hit another button to target the attacker. I use a Hotas for most of the flying controls. Energy control and some targeting options are mapped on the keyboard.

Should work like this:

If you mark him at start, then kombo ping him he will be saved. A shield symbol pops up above your friend. After this you use the shortcut attacker of target to save him from harm.

kombo ping to get your friend as target again.

Put each of the different targets on their own button.

Have one for friendlies, one for enemy players, one for enemy AI, one for capital ship subsystems, and the most important one for "target my attacker".

If you are actually communicating with your team, whoever is getting chased can click "target my attacker" and ping it
