Quest 2 unable to start VR
Edit: A reinstall of Squadrons has gotten things working for me. Not sure what was acting up, but it’s worked properly every time since. Activate Link mode on the headset, start the game however, toggle it into VR mode using the game settings, the screen flickers and switches to proper VR view in the headset. Wish I had a better answer for others, but I’m glad it’s working in my case.

I've downloaded the Oculus desktop software and setup the Quest 2, but I can't seem to get Squadrons going in VR mode in any way. I am able to start the SteamVR app in the headset and get Subnautica going in VR, so everything should be set up/functioning properly. I am using a link cable, not any virtual desktop software.

I have tried going through SteamVR, launching from Steam normally, and allowing third party apps to play and manually adding the program to the PC Oculus browser. Toggling the VR mode using Squadron's in-game settings yields no response at all from my headset in any situation.

SteamVR hangs on the "Next Up" screen, but I've read enough things about SteamVR conflicting with Oculus with this game, so that response sounds normal.

If I manually add Squadrons (or the EAC launcher) to the Oculus launcher, it starts the game properly, but the in-game VR toggle does nothing but show the confirmation pop-up. It continues to show the virtual Oculus Link browser in the headset. I can switch to the virtual desktop tab and see the game on the 2d screen, but that's it.

Any advice would help. I know there are plenty of people using the Quest 2 via link and having no problems. What did you do to set things up, and where are people starting the app from?

Most people seem to have no problems simply plugging the link in, starting from Steam, and toggling it on in-game. What am I doing wrong here?

I am following, as I am also having headaches getting the VR to work, I can get virtual desktop to show a 2D screen, but toggling VR will just blink black and revert to 2D.

You have to know the quest do just recive visual data from pc to be displayed. Like a TV. So dont expect to start squadrons on your TV.

1. Make sure your cable works and the occulus software (on pc and on quest) says green to your devices.
2. If you are at the rift overlay at your quest, then start squadrons from steam desktop mode.
3. If squadrons detect your VR Headset it offers to toggle to VR mode.

have you tried setting the graphics in game to 'borderless' rather than 'fullscreen' ?
do this in Options > Video > Screen settings

hopefully that might help

Tbh i guess kyle you have already tryed too many things. That might cause additional conflicts. Its as easy as i described in step 1-3.

If the hardware is correct. PC/Ouculus are communicating cause of the other VR game Subnautica. And you use the rift s overlay instead of the quest overlay. You should check the local game files of squadrons, set everything back to standart settings in squadrons. USE offlinemode from steam as you disconnect your internet during you try to get it running. Last option clean reinstall of squadrons.

The VR toggle does nothing. As I said, I know it’s extremely simple for most. I’ve just tried many different ways to make it work.

The Oculus App auto starts from plugging the headset in and activating the link mode, the Rift Home pops up in the headset, and I can start the game from Steam on my PC and see the VR options, but the game’s VR toggle doesn’t send any signal.

I’ve watched other people set it up from an Origin install, the exact problem spot for me is the game’s Toggle VR button. There is no flicker or response from the headset, whether on or off. Everything works fine for me, including the cable, all my connections are green in the app.

I can start Subnautica straight from steam on desktop in VR mode and the headset sees it and gives me VR. I can start SteamVR and the headset yanks me into it, in VR.

The game seems to be the weak spot. The VR toggle in-game isn’t sending any signal to my headset, and the launch option from Steam doesn’t work with Squadrons like other VR titles.

Edit: Wish I had a better answer, but reinstalling Squadrons has fixed the problem. Worked the first time and every subsequent relaunch so far.
