Is this worth it as a single player?
I like single player games and almost never play multiplayer. But how long is the game's single mode? Is it a campaign, or just stages? I would like the idea of this game, but I wouldn't buy it if the single mode is just 5-6 tutorial stages for the multiplayer mode.

Absolutely. It's worth it just for practice mode to be honest. But the single player campaign and fleet battles against AI are awesome.

this

story in single was surprisingly good, especially since this is primarily Multiplayer game.
i got my money worth out of single player alone

it took me about 7-8 hours to finish single, and pace was good, not too slow not too fast.

one of better experiences i had with single player stories recently

No, it's not meant as an extended single player game. The single player campaign is only about 8 hours long, and is almost intended as a long tutorial to get you ready for multiplayer. In short, nobody buys this game for single player.

what bug? i finished whole story without issue
If you played the classic X-Wing games, there is a distinct lack of nuance in Squadrons. You will end up fighting capital ships by the second mission because the game isn't giving you time to understand the gameplay mechanics.

I liked the campaign in BF2. This Campaign, you're just some schlub in a schlub squadron. It does have its moments, but it seems geared towards the YA crowd to me. If you got this game on sale, I'd say the Campaign is fine. If not, then not so much. It isn't awful, though, and the other modes are decent fun. Eventually without mods or DLC it will start to feel small, though.

I got a good 10 hours out of singleplayer. I think it was worth it.

It was better than Battlefront II in my opinion, but forking out £34.99 for the story mode alone? Probably not something I can recommend.

Fleet Battles versus the AI is enjoyable though, if you don't want the hassle of real people. There's also matchmade co-op for it too.

Yes it can be. But you do have to go in understanding that the campaign is 14 missions plus 2 prologue missions and will take between 6 hours (if you rush it) and 10 hours if you really take your time with it. Add to that another few hours minimum playing solo fleet battles and practice dogfights. (as a guide I'm 10 hours in and I'm on mission 6. At least 8 hours of those have been single player only). The single player campaign is a full story driven campaign with missions, cut scenes and inbetween stages where you can talk to various people in the hanger of the capital ship and receive your mission briefings.

I highly recommend playing a couple of campaign missions to get the hang of it then restart on Veteran difficulty, switch on advanced power management, set pilot mode to instruments only and make sure to spend some time rebinding the controls for power management, shield focus, power shifting etc. You'll need the extra tools to complete the higher difficulty levels and it'll be a much more challenging and rewarding experience (like the classic games). Plus it'll take longer as you will fail at times.

Personally I fully intend to play through the campaign at least a second full time on the highest difficulty too. So that'll be another 10 hours at least I expect. In the end I expect to get at least 20-30 hours of high quality single player gameplay out of this game and will most likely come back for a wee blast from time to time in the future even if there is no more content added by DLC or modders (modding is of course highly questionable given EA's stance to date on it).
