Unable to progress past "Drift Tutorial" story mode
I'v been searching online and watching youtube to no avail.

I've tried different combinations of cutting engine then turning, then hitting drift button (I did all combos) but seems I'm supposed to turn while boosting, then push the boost button again (as it's mapped) to drift. All that happens is the boost just keeps going. Cutting the engine power doesn't work while boosting (as it continues to thrust at 250). I've even tried mapping another button to use just for drifting, but it says you "drift while boosting". The only way I can successfully drift is by cutting the engine and releasing the boost button, but then the game doesn't recognize that as a drift and I get the NPC saying "let's try one more time".

I'm using a HOTAS system (joystick and throttle), and everything works great, but I have been doing this one task in story mode for 2 hours (I did take a break in between)... I know many many are using HOTAS for this game and don't have issues, so has anyone figured out if I have a button mapping issue, or what the trick is to the drift? I'd like to continue the story!

I appreciate your help in advance!!

This has been frustrating me as well on my HOTAS, among other control issues. I found this on reddit, and successfully did it once:

"There is an issue with drift controls using joysticks where the "Drift while boosting" button acts like a modifier rather than an input.

Normally you press the boost button once then hold the drift button to drift while in the boost.

With the issue, you press the boost button once, then hold the drift button AND hold the BOOST button to drift."

I still have yet to 'resupply droid' in game, no keybinding I can find anywhere :(

I dont use hotas and was able to clear it with mouse and keyboard after a couple attempts. If all else fails, you can always try that route. Not much help I know, sorry.

Thanks I'll check it out and keep trying!
I know in the story mode it gave me a prompt (I have text hints turned on) and it told me to push button 8 for droid resupply (seems the auto mapping has multiple functions for each button) and it does something else if I hold it down. I'm using an xbox/pc HOTAS system.

I was stuck on this for a while too. FWIW the tutorial instructions are wrong.
When she says "cut engine power" it's not referring to your throttle, she means "turn off boost"

So:
1) Set power mode to engines
2) Press boost button
3) Yaw all the way left/right
4) Press boost again to stop boosting
5)????

The reason she tells you to cut the power is when you throttle up, you'll shoot off in that direction. When you get it right you can do a 180o in your own footprint, instantly turn around.

The real issue is that you can't start to drift until Keo tells you that.

Thanks ExoduS! This was doing my head in!

I'm wondering how many are having this issue on HOTAS vs other controls? HOTAS can throttle down instantly, and that kills my boost.

To add, I know the OP has issues with a HOTAS.

I am using a logitech exrteme 3d pro. So basically a joystick w/throttle lever and side tiwst for rufdder inputs. Not sure if that technically counts as HOTAS or not, all I can tell you is: When I followed her instructions re: "turn and cut power" using my throttles, I failed every time. when I just pressed the boost button again to turn off boost instead of using the throttle lever. It passed.

That's all I know. It's possible I mucked up my controls when I was rebinding buttons and now my throtle doesn't auto-cut boost. not sure. I just know i kept failing over and over until I left the throttle alone and just pressed the boost button when she said "turn and cut power". If this helps other people get passed that mission objective then I'm glad I could help.

I just turn and double tap boost on my Hotas and it works.

Press and release boost, turn and press and hold boost button

There's an option (in Controls, but not where you map the controller) you can disable so you can only cancel boost with the boost button. :)

That would likely explain it. Thanks.

Thank you very much. That helped! For a game that brings the action to a screeching halt several times per mission to intrude with "press this button now" it seems they forgot to include the tutorial how to finish that move.

Yea it confused and annoyed me too.

Several attempts I tried boosting and cutting the the thrusters thinking I wasn't getting close enough to the ship for whatever the hell it wanted me to do. Then i searched the keyboard controls even though I'm using a stick to find the drift button and managed to eventually do it by hitting that.

Terrible tutorial that one for sure never going to use that feature.
