What's it like with mouse and keyboard?
Sorry I'm sure this has already been asked but there's so many new threads on here.

I can see a lot of the negative reviews are due to the game being bad with a flight stick. That sucks for those people who have a flight stick.

I intend to use keyboard & mouse. Maybe controller but I prefer having the control buttons of keyboard. What is it like to control?

Dont wanna waste my money on a game that plays badly so unsure whether to buy it right now.

I use mouse & keyboard, the issue I'm having is the mouse system, it basically mimics a stick. If you move the mouse away from the center of the screen the ship goes that way, endlessly, unless you move it back. The further away from the center you move it the harder it turns.

It's awful for target acquisition.

Not terrible, just need to dial in your settings. The higher you set "screen motion range" the easier it is to make small adjustments without getting caught in a loop over steering trying to get straight. There's a very slight delay between when you move the mouse to the edge of the dead zone and when your ship actually starts turning.

Confirming w/ judge here- it's reasonably good and it's comparable to sticks and controllers, but you have to spend some time dialing it in, as out of the box things probably won't be exactly where you want them.

Overall, i'd say that using an xbox controller may be the way to go for general ease-of-use. I currently have the power configurator things binded to my numpad buttons which seems to work well enough, but i have to move my hand from the mouse - point is though, you can't really bind everything perfectly with mouse and keyboard, but you can get it to where it does work if you put some time into rebinding things.

if you are expecting it to handle like any other EA game with aircraft or even BF2 then you are going to be disappointed. the main problems seem to be no ability to rebind some of the keys and for some unknown reason you are forced into the (mouse acts like a joystick) mode and that makes it nearly impossible to aim.

Meh reviews saying Joystick is no good is bleh... It works fine. IMO its the pilot in question...

Yes, you can dial it in, but I feel like at launch the core concept for how mouse and keyboard is designed is flawed. I don't understand why I'm dragging the cross hairs around and not just moving the crosshairs directly. I've spent the entire day experimenting with sensitivity and adjusting the settings and rebinding keys, and I still find that in the middle of combat I'm consistently over compensating and struggle to stay consistently on target. Holding down the "Center Mouse Cursor" button (I switched it to ALT, I think the default is "X") helps. But again I feel like these are a lot of extra steps to get the game to behave how I want it to.

Learning how to fly helicopters in ARMA with mouse and keyboard was less frustrating.

The MKB controls are awful. I'm hearing reports that flightstick controls are aweful.

Anyone have feedback on controllers? That might be the way to go for this game.

Freespace did it beautifully and these developers need to implement the same for mouse and keyboard. Otherwise its impossible to stay on target and you just randomly shoot hoping that you will hit something.

the problem imo is that they are stuck between arcadey (x-wing,tie fighter, freespace) and sim games (elite dangerous) control wise which leaves the controls as a total mess.

If I cant figure out how to turn off the dead zone/mouse cursor moving around the crosshair and instead of have instant/locked flight controls with mouse/keyboard, im determining this is unplayable with m/kb.

Really bad.

It's terrible. Barely playable. If you stop moving the mouse, the ship should stop turning. Now I have to use my eyes to find the cursor, and then move it to the center. My eyes should be looking at other things to be efficient.

Do yourselves a favour, add the "mee too" to here:

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/Mouse-control-not-fit-for-purpose/m-p/9537900#M177

Otherwise the devs will totally ignore it as they have so far.

Have you played Everspace? It is very similar to Star Wars Squadron, EA developers need to go play it and take notes there flight mechanics work spot on for keyboard and mouse users. If you've not played Everspace go try Everspace 2's demo if you're into flight and space games I highly recommend trying it out.
